I actually really like the Metroidvania games, at least the first couple of them anyway.
I'd like to see a traditional Castlevania again, though, as long as they don't go back to the stiff controls of the older games.
Have you played Resident Evil for Gamecube?
It's a pretty big improvement.
Zero mission is better than the original Metroid by far.
REmake on GCN better than the original by far. IMO best remake ever is Ys The Oath in Felgana.
Also I hate FPS with a passion but Metroid Prime is my fave of the whole series and I played the series since 1986.

You are startled by a grim snarl. Before you, you see 1 Red dragon. Will your stalwart band choose to (F)ight or (R)un?
I didn't really "count" the remake (much like how people didn't think the HD Earthworm Jim counts), although since this thread has been extensively talking about them since Metroid was brought up, perhaps we'll need this clarified...
Anyhow, I enjoy a Metroidvania. But for all you guys going "I miss the retro-style CVs", have you not played Dracula X Chronicles and Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth? Not to mention that CV's been going in a variety of genres since the MV, with some of them being more questiionable than others (A 3D Fighter? A Japan-only arcade lightgun-esque game for a franchise which primarily performs overseas rather than in Japan? Sometimes I wonder what Konami is smoking.)
Anyway, back into naming a Videogame franchise killer...
dang I think I'm running out.
I'll have to recheck this, because I do remember grouping units in the original Warcraft II. Also, you should still be able to select by click-dragging.
Though yes, if you like Warcraft II at all you need to get the Battle.net edition. It's pretty much Warcraft II: Champion Edition.

And nothing of value was lost.
Resident Evil 5 took the game away from its core audience and gave it to the mainstream. Its when I lost interest in the series.
Resident Evil Gun games for Wii were nice games, but would have been nice to have on the Gamecube. Fans of the series had been waiting long times for new RE material
Resident Evil 4 was a good balance of core/mainstream and truly the best game of the series.
Resident Evil 0/Remake were games that appealed to core players yet couldn't hit the mainstream.
Resident Evil Code Veronica- A solid RE game, yet seems fragmented at times like something is missing somewhere.
Resident Evil 3 was a slightly worse version of RE2 but still worth 1 playthrough.
Resident Evil 2- The 2nd best game of the series behind 4
Resident Evil 1- A truly special game ahead of its time for Playstation One audiences.
