manuals with missing staples

I'm seeing a lot of ebay auctions for manuals with missing staples, apparently because rental stores would photocopy the pages. How does this affect the manual's value? Would an otherwise mint manual with missing staples be worth more or less than a stapled manual with a few cover creases and maybe some light wear to the pages?

It's not like those staples are some special rare type. When I was completing my copy of StarBlade Alpha the case / booklet I purchased (got taken to the cleaners on that one) had a booklet without staples. I took some equivalent staples, put them through the booklet and bent them into place. Instant stapled manual.

Couldn't they just be reproductions of manuals?

... if they have holes for the staples, then probably not.
