Default What Game(s) Are You Playing? Daily Check (2011)

There used to be a multi-year "Whatcha playin'?" thread, but after nearly nine years it grew too unwieldy to use. Thus, we will now have a new "now playing" thread each year instead. And to get things started...

My birthday was on October 1st, and I got Tatsunoko vs. Capcom and Super Mario Galaxy as gifts. I've been playing both of these games, and I must say I prefer the action of Tatsunoko versus the lots of text, the occasional needless motion controls, and the tutorials of Mario Galaxy. However I am enjoying both. Then again, Mario Galaxy does make me feel sleepy, so I'm more likely to play Tatsunoko at night and Galaxy during the day.

What games are you playing at the moment?

I am currently waiting for all of my Sega Saturn stuff to come in.

Outside of that I have been playing a lot of the better Genesis Sonic Hacks.

    -Sonic 2 Heroes
    -Sonic3 & Knuckles: The Challenges
    -Sonic 2 Retro Remix
    -Sonic The Lost Worlds
    -The S Factor
    -Sonic Megamix

All fun games that I would highly suggest if your a fan of the series.

Rigth now I'm playing Left 4 Dead 2. I'm trying to complete all campaigns, offline, on Expert.

That's about it at the moment. I started Bioshock (360 version) a few weeks ago, but I didn't really enjoy it. I'll probably get back to it at some point though.

I finished up Dead Island over last weekend and really enjoyed it. Now I'm starting up with Shadows of the Damned and its fun so far. I need to get back to a few others I have that are partially finished though before the holidays roll around.

I just played the final Act of Gears of War 3 about an hour ago. Awesome trilogy - LOVED IT! Then my boys and I played some multiplayer COD: MW2. Here's what else I'm playing:

    On my phone - Tetris
PSP - God of War: Ghost of Sparta (almost done)

That's it. Now that I'm done with GOW3, I'm going to jump back into God Of War III which I stopped about 2 months ago and need to finish.

I have been playing lots of Gears of War 3 multiplayer lately. I also gave the Forza 4 demo a try and played some more Halo Reach. And of course I still check in with the Battlefield 3 beta but I'm slowly losing interest in it, if only because it's on one map with one game type.

I've been playing Dragon Warrior IV quite a bit lately on my NES inbetween sessions of Lego Batman (Xbox 360) and revisiting MW2 for a 6th run through on my 360 in anticipation of MW3. Dragon Warrior IV is one of those games that I re-visit once every 2 or 3 years and remains (in my opinion) the best RPG on the NES, though part III is up there as well. When I finish DWIV I plan on firing up either some Faxanadu or possibly focusing on some "beat em' up's" like TMNT II or Double Dragon II or something to that effect, should be fun.

    Yesterday:

    Ninja Gaiden (NES)

I can't say how many times I have owned this game. I owned it when the NES was still in the stores. I then got it a few years ago when I restarted my collection. I got rid of it but then decided to get it on Virtual Console. I wanted the real deal again. I got it in the post yesterday and played that sucker like there was no tomorrow. The cut scenes are just so epic!

I finished off everything in Giana Sisters DS for DS (duh). Good times.

I just started up Otomedius Excellent for Xbox 360 (after digging the system out of my closet). Leave it to diehard bullet hell freaks to make you feel like a complete failure, haha. They claim that the game is easy, but I got my ass handed to me on my first attempt. I hate how this game has all of this pay DLC. I know that's the norm these days, but I mostly play older games and, of the modern games I play, that's not usually a "feature". I want Kokoro Belmont, dangit, but I don't want to pay for her. Same goes for the BGM. I wish all of this content was just unlockable. I especially don't think they deserve extra money when they went so extremely cheap on the manual. It's 4 pages, and it barely explains anything. There's no tutorial in the game either. So I'm left just guessing what some of the icons I'm collecting do. I pity anyone that's never played a Gradius and has no clue what's going on.

    Donkey Kong Classics (NES)
    Legend of Zelda (NES)

Thanks to the near impossibility of finding the instruction manual for the original Donkey Kong, I ordered Donkey Kong Classics with the instruction manual. The upside of this is I now have both Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Jr. I had never made it past the second screen of Donkey Kong Jr and marveled at the third screen. This is definitely one of my favorite games now on the NES.

I have never made it very far in Legend of Zelda. I decided I would pull out the NES Game Atlas and see if I could make some progress. I now have two pieces of the Triforce which is no small feat for me because I can never get into the game in the past.

I'm just going through the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection on PS3. I'm at the end of MGS2 and finally making my way through Peacewalker now that I have the "luxury" of using dual thumb sticks! MGS3 will be started soon enough.

    Friday 12/9 (and today):

Back to the Future: The Game (Wii)

I started Episode 4: Double Visions on Friday but did not get the chance to finish it. I made it a point today to finish that episode and complete the game at the same time by finishing Episode 5: Outatime. I really enjoyed this one!

Finally finished Dragon Age..... what a disappointing pile of crap.....and from Bioware, nonetheless!! Really enjoying Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep on PSP. More PSO on the Dreamcast.

Currently playing Donkey Kong Country on SNES, Mickey Mouse: Land of Illusion on the Master System (a great game in my opinion) and the two EIDOS titles Tomb Raider & Crimewave on the Saturn.

Crimewave is incredibly addictive, I just can't seem to put it down!
