Tengen is the better one. Plus 2 players.
Nintendo for the single player and graphics, Tengen for the 2 player.
SNES 'Tetris & Dr. Mario' is definitely my favorite all around. Really solid control, colorful graphics, the classic tetris theme (you'd be surprised how many versions omit it) and a super-fun 2 player mode. Hands down my fave.
Tengen all the way. I like the graphics and the sound better. I also used to play it in the arcade all the time when I was younger. Two player is a snap and who doesn't love the way Tengen carts look? Tengen Tetris is my favorite Tetris followed up by Tetris Worlds. Just love that game.
I don't want to tip my hat just yet, but rest assured I'll have something to say about Tetris in my ongoing top 100 NES/Famicom games countdown on my blog.

The Tengen 2-player is fine.. but it ends up mostly as being "2 player simultaneous" without any real competitive game in there.
Neither. Puyo Puyo for the win baby!
Tengen Tetris for its awesome 2 player modes.
"And the book says: 'We may be through with the past, but the past ain't through with us.'"
Nintendo Tetris.
Sorry but the Tengen version seems bland to me.
Haha!!! Puyo Puyo rocks, but, since it is by its nature a competitive puzzle game, it can never satisfy the solo puzzle itch that Tetris scratches. With that said, I have three Super Famicom versions of Puyo Puyo that I treasure. I REALLY wish there was a Puyo Puyo (Puyo Pop) network site like Tetris Friends.
If I had to choose, I'd say the Nintendo version, whose sights and sounds I definitely prefer. There is also the nostalgia factor that gives it the edge since it was THE Tetris I played as a child. Conversely, my sentimental attachment more than likely is obscuring a more sound judgment. Multiplaying gives Tengen's Tetris an added dimension, and as T2KFreeker said:
Indeed. The physical cartridge itself is beautiful, even if the game's graphics seem a bit lackluster to me. The rarity of the Tengen version also adds a mystique to the game. Whenever I pop it into the NES I feel all warm inside.
Returning to the joy that is multi-player Tetis, let me highly recommend Tetris Battle Gaiden for the Super Famicom. The game is brilliant fun! I snatched a copy off of ebay for like $5 plus shipping, which delighted me to no end. Here is a video to show you what the game is about.
Hey, that looks like a lot of fun! Thanks for the recommendation, the video gave a good idea how to play. The only thing I couldn't pick up on was how do you know which spell you're going to use? Is it something to do with the arrows being higher up/different color?
Speaking of Super Famicom, what do people think of Super Tetris 3 for the 4-player mode? Any good or is there a better 4-player tetris game out there?
I prefer the Tengen version myself.
I 2nd whoever said GameBoy,
But between NES versions, I liked the Nintendo version better. When I finally managed to try the Tengen version, I was fairly disappointed.
I had Nintendo Tetris as a kid, love the game. Never have owned the Tengen version, I highly doubt the higher price tag of Tengen over Nintendo is legitimized.
Tengen version is a much better game IMO, and a nice port of the Atari arcade version.
Tengen. The only advantage of the Nintendo is seeing the blocks broken down. I Love the Tengen version because 2 player, Better and more music choices and the Singles, Doubles, Triples, And Tetris's (Plural Possibly?) Look awesome
