Default Experience with the Retron 3?

any experience with the retron 3 version 2? Since my snes broke down, i was thinking of getting a retron 3 instead of a new snes. Is it worth it? I read the second version of the retron 3 had audio problems on the snes side? can anyone confirm?

I have one and think its pretty awesome. I do notice some sound differences but I'm not a stickler for sound issues as I usually listen to music or something else while playing. The only annoying thing to me when it comes to sound is that the genesis sound is much quieter then the NES and SNES so if you switch from NES to Genesis you really have to turn your tv way up. Almost all the games I've thrown at it have worked including fx chip games. Some accersories would not work with it though such as my NES advantage.

The only thing I'd add is that the wireless controllers it comes with are complete crap. While the idea of having wireless controllers for your retro games seems cool, they are nowhere near the quality of PS3 or 360 wireless, hell they're even worse than the old Genesis wireless controllers. They're borderline useless, so it's really good that the thing is compatible with original pads.

Oh dear God, NO! The RetroN3 Version 2's sound is HORRENDOUS. Watch these videos I posted to my YouTube page to see just how horrible the Super NES side of RetroN3 Version 2 sounds:

If you want to replace your Super NES with a clone, get a RetroDuo or an FC Twin, or, if you want to take your Super NES games wherever you go, either the SupaBoy or the FC16 Go. I privilege the RetroDuo a little more as the sound is clearer and clips less than the FC Twin(the FC Twin has some excessive low-pass filtering going on and the sound tends to crackle a lot more than on the RetroDuo) and I have no experience with either of the portable Super NES clones. Steer clear of the RetroN3 Version 2; it's the worst Super NES clone I've ever come across. I bought a RetroN3 Version 2 for a friend as he's a bit tight on space and would like a Super NES and a Genesis and nearly returned the console because the audio was so bad on the Super NES side. You can fix the absolutely murdered audio, but I need another RetroN3 Version 2 to experiment on as with that other RetroN3 Version 2 I worked on, I completely bypassed the audio amp, but doing this makes the audio considerably weaker.

While I agree that the sound issues are present on the Retron 3 (like they are in practically any/all clone consoles) I'm not as personally bothered by them as others.

The infra-red wireless controllers on the Retron 3 however, are a fucking JOKE and frankly, shouldn't even be included.

BE PREPARED to use your own NES, SNES and/or Genesis wired controllers when purchasing a Retron 3.

So much hate for the RetroN3's pack-in controllers. I actually like these things so long as I'm not playing a game which requires button-mashing as the pack-in controllers are complete crap for that. I've even been able to use the controllers facing a full 180 degrees away from the console on both the Version 1 and Version 2.
