Today I found a used Saturn with a few games for 20 dollars at a GameCrazy. "Yay" I said, but apparently it thinks the door is always open. Sooo yeah the disks won't even try to spin, can this be fixed? If not, thank God for 90 day returns!

Yes! Depending on the version Saturn it is, the door interlock can be defeated with something as easy as tape, or worst case scenario, a dot of solder. Then it will think the door is always closed, which isn't perfect, but is vastly preferable, because games will play.
However, if you have an exchange option, and can simply exchange it for a working unit, I'd try that first. If you got it cheap due to the malfunction, then I'd try to fix it.
Nearly half of my 30+ systems were acquired broken and cheap, and then repaired. It's a good way to get hardware if your a bit handy.

It's probably modded so that the user can swap disks and play CDRs. Open it up and check for a piece of tinfoil or something in the door sensor. If this is the case, you'll just be able to remove that little 'jumper' and it will go back to normal behavior.

Okay, I'll try opening up this lil guy. Let's hope for the best. o.o
If it was used for disc swapping, that makes it a less desirable Saturn. The disc swap method is brutally hard on the spindle, and the drive motor.
As far as I'm concerned the disc swap method is Saturn abuse. x_x

Hmm, well I can't even unscrew a few screws, so I guess it's time to return it. Darn those 3 deep screws!

I have on Saturn that does that some times. It's just the spring for me and I'll I have to do is put a little pressure on it and it's fine. Have you tried holding down the lid to see if it reads the disc? If it works then it could just be the spring. Check out Electric Quarter here for a screw driver that'll open just about anything. I bought one and it's really nice.
Okay I got it fixed with the help of my engineer Dad. Apparently it was a problem with the cover mechanism, not the switch. Hmmm, silly me. :P
cover mechanism= door interlock
Same thing.
Glad it's fixed!
