    Default PC Gaming and SecuROM

So I just recently got back into PC gaming, and have bought some games that have SecuROM. I usually do my research on games before I purchase them, but I bought Far Cry 2, Dark Void, and Oblivion/Bioshock bundle on whims. They all have SecuROM.

I was doing some reading, and apparently there is an official SecuROM removal application from SecuROM. Does this really remove all traces of it from m system, including all the registry bullshit?

I know of the patches for Far Cry 2 and Bioshock that remove the install limit, and SecuROM requirements, but I assume they don't do more than that?

Also, what of the rootkit I read about in regards to Bioshock? The version I have is the re-released version bundled with Oblivion. Does this install a rootkit? Does the version of Oblivion I have use DRM, or is it just back stock from the original 2006 release?

Posting from my phone, so that's why I'm throwing out all these questions at once.

    Thanks guys!

All of these problems are the reason that I generally choose to stick with Steam for gaming these days. A lot of the games that have SecuROM in disc format eschew it in favor of Steam's "DRM" when it's on Steam.

From what I understand, the SecuROM removal does remove the program - but it will probably also keep your games from working. Not sure about the registry keys. If you have those versions of the games...I'm not too sure you can do a lot to avoid the intrusive DRM.

If you remove Securom with their tools then the game won't run. Period.

A LOT of games on Steam still have Securom. Companies will never learn.

That's what cracks are for. It's just a shame that legit customers have to resort to such measures.
