I honestly don't remember. I have an external RAM cart, but I haven't used it or my SEGA CD in years. Anyway, what I need is to see more of that avatar.
HAHA what does the external ram cart do? and well if you look there is an Alyson Hannigan uhm "adult tape" on the internet
The way to do it is start up the Sega CD and press A to go to the CD player. Then insert a Sega CD game into the drive and an option named memory should pop up in the right corner of the screen.
Press A to access it.
Press A again to go to the memory menu.
From there, select format, conform and it will erase all the memory stored on the Sega CD.
Press A, then Exit and if you wanna start the Sega CD game, press the CD-ROM button on the top right or reset the console and press Start.
The RAM cart plugs into the Genesis cartridge port and acts as a memory card for the Sega CD. It also has more memory than the internal console.

"...leave love bleeding, in my hands, in my hands again..."
One thing about the RAM Cart is most games can't save directly to it--you have to save to the internal ram and then copy it over.
I also recently read about something called (I think) the Megacart which might be a good alternative to the official RAM cart.
Another thing is that the internal memory in the Sega CD itself is so small that I'd almost say getting the RAM cart is more a necessity than a luxury. Certainly, if you plan to play Shining Force CD, you need it to fit all the saves needed to play the entire game.
