Default Are all Vanishing Point (Dreamcast) discs corrupted?

It's not the best racer in the world, but I enjoyed playing Vanishing Point on Dreamcast back in the day. A year or so ago when I went back to play my original retail disc it wouldn't load. I purchased another copy and was stuck again. I recently picked up a sealed copy figuring it would totally load and it didn't.

Does anyone else have this problem? This happens on my Saturn with NiGHTS too, while Christmas NiGHTS runs perfectly along with all my other games.

It's most likely your Dreamcast. The laser could be failing or there could be other issues which are preventing that particular game/disc from loading. While modern discs do occasionally fail even if stored properly, it's a very rare problem in anything pressed after about 1995 or so.

I considered that too, but the system works flawlessly with every other game.

Had this happen with Rush 2049. Every other game I have runs fine, but 2049 will not load. I tried it on another Dreamcast I had and it loaded right up fine.

You might try getting ahold of an ISO and burn it to CDR and see if that works. My first Dreamcast stopped reading retail discs 90% of the time (right after the original warranty ended... grumble grumble), but CDR's always worked.

I had this happen before with a brand new game, but I don't remember which one. I thought it had something to do with the revision number on the Dreamcast or something. Like some games are incompatible with certain Dreamcasts.

I also found this small thread where someone suggested cleaning a part of the Dreamcast:

You may need to boil the disc.
It's worth a shot, since you have several copies.

You can also try adjusting the pot screw on the gd-rom drive.

Just try washing it first. I've gotten disks that wouldn't play because they still had some kind of film on the bottom from the factory, but got them working by washing them with dawn and warm water.
