Default Recommendations on Space Invaders games? (homebrews, classic computers also welcome)

Looking for ideas on some really good space invaders games. So far from what I've read, the GB of Space Invaders played on a Super Gameboy is supposed to be good.

Any others? Note it doesn't have to be 100% faithful translation if it just feels right.

The regular SNES version of Space Invaders is fine by me.

As far as updates to the series:

Space Invaders 95 rocks in a cute anime kinda way, and Space Invaders Infinity Gene is spectacular in so, so many meaningful ways. I really like 95, but Infinity Gene is my favorite between the two.

There is something magical about the 2600 version- the sound effects in particular.

Majestic Twelve - The Space Invaders Part IV / Super Space Invaders '91 is my recommendation.

I still can't get the thud thud thud of the invaders moving steadily towards me out of my nightmares....

I'm gonna second the SNES version for its awesome mulitplayer modes.

Another mention is for the excellent TI99/4A game TI Invaders, best Space Invaders clone ever made IMO.

Alien Invasion for Channel F is also really well made too.
If they made a movie out of your top five worst sins, what would it be rated?

Fact of the matter is, The original had a very deliberate, strategic gameplay with plenty of SECRETS, but all the home ports pretty much only replicate the surface gameplay like they had no clue about them. So at that point it becomes like any old school twitch shooter (e.g. Galaxian) which Space Invaders is definitely not.

That being said, of course the SNES/SGB is great since it's really a port of the original with everything intact. But it should have had Space Invaders Part 2 in there to make it complete.

Eduardo's SPACE INVADER COLLECTION for the Colecovision is probably the best of the bunch with EVERYTHING (all bugs & secrets) intact. But you'll probably never find a copy for a reasonable price at this point in time.

As far as other versions of the game go, which pretty much abandon the strategy, and focus on the action, but are still fun.. I've always liked:

Return of the Invaders (playable in Mame, or in Space Invaders Pocket on the PSP)
Space Invaders 95 (same as above).
Also the Space Invaders Extreme series is pretty ok.
Space Invaders 91 on the Genesis is pretty fun
