Default Unreleased SNES Games - The Master List

    http://www.snescentral.com/unreleased.php

I'm making up a master list of titles for the SNES that are known to be unreleased. The games on this list have at least some level of verification that they did truly exist in some form, and I would rather not put on games that are purely speculative (i.e. Super Mario FX). I'm up to 165 titles on that list, and certainly there should be more. I'm always looking for binaries of these games, so if you have a binary of an unreleased game that I have listed as "no", please let me know. If you have a title that is missing, let me know the source (or better yet, make a picture/scan of it), and I will add it to the master list.

Does Nightmare Busters get removed from this list if/when Super Fighter Team finally ships it?

I'm going to say no. To me, it is nothing more than a largescale reproduction operation.

even if super fighter team has legitimate rights to publish the game from the IP holders?

The fact that they went through the trouble to obtain the intellectual property rights to the game and that they're releasing it with a manual and box makes it legitimate to me, even if it is being released outside of the "era" of the SNES. Many of the games we know and love had prototypes made first - versions that were probably incomplete or lacking in some way. The primary difference between those and this game are the date of release and the fact that it's not licensed by Nintendo.

I think most people consider Super Noah's Ark 3D canon and it's ultimately a knockoff of Wolfenstein. I don't see why Nightmare Busters would be any different just because of the date.

With regards to Nightmare Busters, I'll believe it when I see it. The game is still a year out. It stays on the list.

I would assume super fighter team isn't releasing the exact same code from the version that went unreleased 20 years ago. So the original version will still remain "unreleased".

If i bought the rights to hellraiser and coded up a homebrew for the NES, that doesn't make the missing version "released".

Very cool list. Are the titles that aren't links pages that just aren't done yet or is there just no information available to put on a page for those?

How about Project Dream, the project that ultimately morphed into Banjo-Kazooie? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Dream

And I'm thinking there are other SNES projects that got shifted to N64 in one form or another, but I can't seem to think of any others off the top of my head.

The games that have no page probably won't get a page anytime soon, unless I happen upon a ROM image that needs releasing. It would take years for me to do it, considering the limited amount of time I have.

    I'll add Project Dream.

I don't see Uchuu Race: Astro Go! Go! (Unreleased North American Version) or Noughts and Crosses on your list.

I have Astro Go Go on the list, but I have not updated it yet. Also, I wouldn't consider Noughts and Crosses as an unreleased game, as it was produced exclusively for the Nintendo Gateway System. At 1998 (which is the copyright date it has), I doubt Nintendo had any intentions on releasing the game commercially.

Very cool to hear about Astro, and I understand where you're coming from on Noughts. It's an odd duck in the proto world, and I agree it was unlikely on the block for production for the SNES, just thought it was worth hearing your thoughts on it.

At some point, I will make a Nintendo Gateway System article, I will put Noughts and Crosses in it. When that article will be produced, I am not sure. So many things to do, so little time...

I did a pretty big update today, adding quite a few new titles to the list. I scanned through the March and April 1992 issues of Gamepro for information on unreleased games, and updated the following pages:

    Substantial updates:

    - The Lost Mission
    - Spellcraft
    - Toxic Crusaders
    - Falcon
    - Final Fantasy V
    - Bulls vs. Lakers
    - Golden Empire

    Minor updates:

    - The Great Battle
    - Metal Masters
    - Pigskin
    - Railroad Tycoon
    - Robosaurus
    - Might & Magic II
    - Swamp Thing
    - The Flash
    - Ultrabots
    - Romancing SaGa
    - Castles
    - Baseball Stars II
    - Robo Mech
    - Super Double Dribble
    - Ultima V
    - Maniac Mansion II
    - Casino Kid II

It's amazing what you can and can't discover from obscure ads and so on from that period. It keeps you wondering how much is really out there or just out there in words.

Used to love me some Earl Weaver Baseball. It's a shame more console gamers never got to appreciate it. Also the main himself was a gem:

I'm wondering if Capcom once later considered releasing Black Tiger for the Super NES after having declined on releasing the NES version?

Curse of the Azure Bonds for Snes was listed as coming soon in a few mags, but I'm not sure if it was ever even started. I half expected it to be game mags got some bad info and there never was any deal being inked for it.
