Cart saves w/ no battery???

I just opened up a copy of WWF No Mercy on the N64 and noticed there was no battery. So, how exactly does the game save to the cart????

There's probably flash memory in there, a rewritable chip. Sega Genesis games used this (Sonic 3 comes to mind,) as do some Gameboy Advance games. Didn't know there were N64 games that used it too.
