Retro games rock...everything else makes me sick...it's crap

I don't think I'll ever get bored of my NES and SNES...with all their flaws and imperfections...those 2 systems are the only ones that matter to me. Retro games in general I have nothing but love for. But modern video games are complete crap. Just utter and total garbage. I don't know why soo many morons buy the stuff. I realized that tonight while playing Lolo for my NES...taking a break and trying to play something more recent...giving up...and playing Lolo again.

Seriously...all the modern stuff is garbage. It's nothing but gimmicks and fancy graphics. Every mother f-ing new system is just an update to graphics. I don't give a rats behind about graphics...WHY?!?? Because I still have to hold that stupid controller in my hand while staring at some stupid television. I don't want to hold an f-ing thing in my hand. I don't want to stare at a damn screen. I DON'T want to play AS Link. I WANT TO BE LINK. Why the hell can't they make the holodeck from Star Trek. That's what I want. I want myself...physically...to walk around a world and tell Gannon to stop d*cking around and let Zelda go. I want to be able to approach NPC's and tell them to their face that I reject their idiotic sidequests. I want to be Megaman and slap Dr. Wily and then blast him right between the eyes. That's the kind of system I want.

So until that day comes...you'll find me in front of my NES and SNES. The rest...I leave to all the moronic fanboy pricks out there. I'll save my money for a real improvement and update.

Maybe in the next twenty years there will be Virtual Reality, which will have homebrew, neo-retro games rockin' the minds of us old-timers to their very limits. Let's hope we see it sooner than that.

while I do agree that video games seem to be running out of ideas nowadays, don't write off current gen games completely, there IS some good stuff out there, albeit you will have to sift through a stack of COD clones. but we had that too. I usually bring this up in discussions with friends. Usually theres talk of SOOOOO many FPS's and COD clones, then someone will say something along the lines of we didnt have that back in the day. Which i grin and ask how many street fighter clones or even later mortal kombat clones there were.

but now im getting a little off topic.

anyway, I'm with you as far as feeling that past generations gaming was more of an experience to enjoy. however There still are good games out there. They're just harder to find now.

I'm getting to this point as well. I keep having faith that they will make something that I can stay excited about and all we get is modern warfare garbage and a new madden every year. I think few games will ever excite me again like a contra, super Mario world or final fantasy 3

There has always been plenty of filler and crap all the way back to the beginning. To define all modern games by the deluge of COD/Halo clones is nonsensical. Much in the same way that one could argue that all older games suck because there are a ton of mediocre platformers out there. There are plenty of excellent games that have come out with this generation and even the last. A generation of consoles should be judged by the better games of that era not the crap filler out there as they will be the ones remembered moreso. If you don't like current stuff because it doesn't suit your tastes, fine that's a personal preference. I dislike alot of PS1 and N64 era stuff because it doesn't intrest me but I'm not about to say all of it sucks.

Sure graphics are a focus today but, what exactly is new about that? I seem to recall marketing for pretty much every system ever that was at least in some way tied to how much better the graphics were than a competing/previous generation system.

I won't totally write off all modern games, but the main difference between now and the Classic period (mid-80s through the 90s) is that then filler games weren't the most popular (sports games aside), while now Halo-clones are the popular games. No one ever played and no one will remember Time Killers. The same can't be said for the plethora of repetitive first person shooters that currently plague modern gen systems.

As far as the whole holodeck thing, technology doesn't usually make huge jumps like that, it transitions. To get there, there has to be many smaller transitions. Modern systems are simply a necessary part of that transition from pong to who knows what's next. But I'm sure the OP knows this which is why I'm not sure why they feel the need to rant.

Well...yes...of course I know that genius. But until we get there...I'm not wasting my money anymore. Like I said...for retro games I'm forgiving ad understanding since they started everything....but for the newer games...it's just gimmicks and graphics. We still have to hold that f*cking controller and stare at a stupid screen. I refuse to do either. I want to be in the game...calling the shots and moving around like I do in the real world. Only thing I see meeting this criteria is the holodeck.

And all this talk about "but there are gems in current systems" blah blah blah is just a bunch of crap. These are the same people who line up to buy re-released versions of Ocarina...further supporting the stupidity of companies...so yeah...your opinion means nothing to me.
