I see ebay gives you 50 free auction listings a month, regardless of the starting price. I also see that auctions have a lower fee than BIN. So why would anyone do a BIN when they can just list it as an auction for the same price?

BIN helps large volume sellers of expensive items. It has a flat starting free of 50 cents.
Unlike auctions where (after the 50 free listings) over $25 start price has a higher fee than BIN.
BINs also may last up to 30 days with no extra fee. While 10 day auctions cost an extra 40 cents on top of the listing fee.
Lum fan.
Also, you can often get higher prices w bin. People are more willing to hit a bin than bid/wait, even if they pay a little more.
