Default Streets of rage 3 isn't that bad at all...

I kinda had a hard time throwing out cash for a game that usually gets less then stellar reviews. That fact it's one of the pricey genesis games didn't help.(it's not Dracula x pricey but it's not cheap either)

So I finally snagged a "rough" copy reasonably priced on flea bay and what do you know.... I love it!

I'm not trying to say it lives up to sor2 in epicness but it's pretty fun. Axel is my favorite character in 2 and he seems a little slower in 3. The music does fall short of part 2 but I don't feel it's as bad as people make it out to be. (i like industrial more then techno) The whole game including the music has a dirtier feel to it, which I like. The way the weapons have life bars and your specials have a timer is cool. The stage where you have to bust thru walls was the icing on the cake!

I remember having similar feelings about megaman 5. People hate on it but when I played it I loved it!

    Btw... Roo sucks!

Streets of Rage 3 gets slammed by people due to the fact that the Japanese Bare Knuckle 3 is superior. The color pallette and difficulty are screwed up in SOR3. The story sequences and first boss were removed as well, though the latter makes perfect sense as Ash is extremely inflammatory. I'm glad you're enjoying SOR3, but once you play Bare Knuckle 3 you'll understand.

I wasn't aware of these changes and SOR3 is one of my favorite games. Gonna make Bare Knuckle 3 a priority play.

I thought the game was okay.

But boy, the music sucks. Half the time it sounds less like music and more like Yuzo Koshiro banging random keys on a keyboard.

This. I only played Bare Knuckle 3 for the first time last year. Everything you mentioned is correct. Sor3 seemed like it was rushed.

I love SOR3 but the difficulty gets annoyingly hard in the later stages. The Jet boss has 6 life bars in just the normal setting alone.

I will agree to the statement on BK3 - Back when Genny was in its hay day I owned and beat 1 & 2 and It wasn't until a few years ago that I actually tried to get SOR3 - I found BK3 at a flea market , bought it , played it, loved it...I just got SOR3 about a week ago...and I can't believe how different the experience is. Maybe playing SOR3 first is best for you, as you have a real surprise a head of you.

What's the best way to play Bare Knuckles III on a NTSC-U console?

Unless you're genesis has a region switch in it a game genie can bypass it's region lockout, also there are reproductions of it.

The Game Genie is better than Action Replay and those other carts?

The game certainly has a different feel to it than part 1 and 2.

I think most people were turned off by some of the more "odd" playable characters. Don't get me wrong, I love my cyborgs and, uh, boxing kangaroos as much as the next guy... but what are they doing in streets of Rage? Then there's the music. I was very impressed by it, others not so much. I'll admit, while overall its compositions are not as appealing as SOR 1 and 2, on a technical level it simply blows 1 and 2 away. I still can't believe the Genesis produced some of the sounds in that game.

Then along came the internet and we realized just how much Sega altered the game for the US release. I think all these things make it an easy target for criticism.

Regardless, I really enjoy SoR 3.
If a god is willing to prevent evil, but not able, then he is not omnipotent. If he is able, but not willing, then he must be malevolent. If he is both willing and able, then why is there evil? If he is neither able or willing then why call him a god?

When it comes to Streets of Rage and music, SoR2 is my favorite. Goddamn this is awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OQpinEGlXA

I really liked Street of Rage 3. Then again, I've never played Bare Knuckle 3. I'd probably like that as well and just consider them different games. I'll have to pick that up.

They opened up that can of worms when we fought that wall alien thing in part 2! Lol

I agree. Sor 1 and 2 sounded like they could be hits. 3 sounded like some kinda underground dj, playing in an abandoned wherehouse at 4 a.m. !
    I really like this one...

There is something called the mega key. You could sometimes find them on ebay. Either that or region mod your system
