Default SMB Utility- Editing/Creating Super Mario Levels

Hey! I'm trying my hand at SMB Utility and I have two questions:

    1) Does anyone know of any good tutorial on how to work this? Preferably one without sh*tty music playing during it if it is a video, but, hey, beggars can't be choosers, can they?

    2) Can I make levels from scratch or can I only change the material that is already in the Super Mario Bros. rom?
I really, really would prefer to start from scratch.

I think you can make levels from scratch but I'm pretty sure that you have to keep the levels the same file size they were on the cart. I think the editors can create filler to maintain the same size but you can't make it any bigger than it was before. Should not be a huge deal but you probably could not jam pack you levels with blocks, pipes, fire, etc. unless the level had many of those elements to begin with. Then again, I could be totally wrong because I tinkered with a SMB editor a while back but never really got that far into it. If Nintendo were smart they would create level editors for their classic NES games and sell them for the Wii along with online trade functionality (along with a mod-friendly version of the games themselves). Just putting Zelda & SMB on the list would even convince people to pay a subscription fee.

Wherever politics tries to be redemptive, it is promising too much. Where it wishes to do the work of God, it becomes not divine, but demonic.
