Default The TI-99 is so depressing

I know it sucks really bad, but why couldn't it be worth a little more than it is. I have one in the original box and I'm ashamed to show it in my collection. I have 3 in total and unfortunately they all play. I'm thinking about taking out my anger on at least one of them.

Why don't you just sell them? I'm sure there are many people who would want one.

I lack the cruelness to sell these to anyone. It's a huge burden, but someone has to carry them. Not to mention they aren't worth the shipping.

I wouldn't mind taking some of those games off of your hands for the cost of shipping.

Sell them locally, that's what I did with the two I had. In box you might get $10-$20 for one, I believe I got $20 for both of mine together and only one was in box.

There's nothing to be depressed about. If you don't have any use for the TI-99, I'm sure you can find someone who would enjoy it.

If it is the amount that you would receive from it that makes you depressed, unfortunately, there's not much we can do about that though.

Some people are upset that prices are too high on videogames.
Some people are upset that prices are not high enough on videogames.

I have a feeling you guys will never be happy.

'tongue in cheek' apparently has no meaning on the interwebs.

I thought your post was pretty funny Genjackson.

I recently sold a bunch of games for the TI-99 to a guy in Denmark. I think he paid about twice as much for shipping as he did for the games.

I'd be very happy with the thousands I've "invested" over the years in video games being reduced to spare change, if it meant that I could go on my merry way collecting more video games for the other pocket's worth of spare change. After the monetary value of my baseball card collection was decimated, I lost all interest in the monetary value of what I was collecting. The only time I am concerned with the value of my collection is when I trade or sell games for more games.

Of course, if I somehow develop a powerful indifference to video games one day, I am sure I'd be pissed if my collection wasn't worth crap.

The only thing about the TI-99 that sucks is that all of the cartridges that are easy to find are all "productivity" software. I have a few games, but the Atarisoft games are pretty hard to find.

I want the prices on games I'm looking for to be cheap and the prices on games I'm selling to be high. I also want the values to change as my want list and trade pile changes. What's wrong with that?

The Atarisoft titles aren't that hard to find esp if you are happy with loose carts.

The Ti has some great games that are dirt cheap.
TI99 Donkey Kong was one of the best available at the time and it has the pie factory level.

    Default There is no shame

There is no shame in owning a TI-99. It is a retro system, good or bad there is history behind it. Just like Atari's ET I wouldn't have any shame in having that shown as part of my collection. If you are willing to give it away (I will pay for shipping) I wouldn't mind having one. One man's trash can be one man's treasure.

So does the C64 and Atari 8-bit versions from Atarisoft. They're much better than the TI/99 version as well, but there's nothing wrong with hunting down that version.

And TI's version of Burgertime might just be the best home version around, in my opinion.

One of the many problems with the TI-99/4A was that the guy in charge of hiring programmers for the system decided to center his operation in Odessa, Texas. Not too many Silicon Valley programmers wanted to move out into the desert-like Texas countryside. But the guy who put it together had a home there, so instead of going to where all the programmers were, he decided to scrape together a bunch of lower-rung people to work on a game or two who would then quit and move back to a decent city. There were some good programmers for the system, but the console's odd hardware design crippled it from the start. This is coming from a lifelong TI user, too. There are good games for the system, if you have a floppy drive or have some luck finding rarer cartridge games.

Some great exclusives if you ask me. Alpiner alone is worth the price of admission.

Although I have fond memories of the TI, I have no desire to collect for it. I do have a system somewhere that I tried to mod some RCA jacks into for some reason. Also I think a complete set of MBX cartridges. I'd consider picking one up if I could find an MBX. I'd prefer to find someone with an MBX who wants the carts who will let me kill an afternoon playing with the thing.

To the OP: Clearly you've never owned a Tomy Tutor. Quit whining, there are far worse systems out there, and there's a sucker willing to buy every single one. Of course when *we* look for a system we're not the sucker
