    Default FMV Title Identification

Hello all. I'm thinking of a PC (likely DOS) game. It was FMV, from the early nineties, and it had a sci-fi noir theme. I distinctly remember that 1) there was an "ad" in the game for a flashlight that was guaranteed to outlive you and 2) early in the game, a female bartender offers you a drink, and if you drink it you will die an awful poisoning death.

    Any ideas?

Can you be more precise regarding "FMV" ? Was it entirely prerendered video featuring live action?

To take a wild guess, it could be one of the Tex Murphy games.

Scenes would play, and afterward you were left in a room with cycling video animation or with the last frame of the previous FMV to interact with in each area.

Also, if you chose not to take the poisoned drink, the player's character would point a gun at the bartender, she would take him more serious, and then give him the information he wanted.

Was it by any chance an of the Tex Murphy games?

I was going to say Black Dahlia, but that was just noir style and not sci-fi.

Nah, guys, I'm pretty sure it is not Tex Murphy. That's the series I first checked up on, and it is almost definitely not it. For one thing, I never played the Tex Murphy games back in the day. (Sure did see the ads for the third and fourth ones a lot in the computer gaming mags back then though!)

The game I'm thinking of had a somewhat dystopian, Robocop-like feel to it, and I'm pretty sure it was from a first-person perspective for the whole game, without verbs/action icons to click before interacting. I think it was all mouse-driven, with at most left and right mouse button interactions (likely "look" and "use"). It seemed like you could die pretty easily and often in the game, and I'm sure it must have been a DOS-based game.

    Rise of the Dragon?

There was an early scene that took place in a bar but I don't recall the bartender trying to poison you.

Wow, I've never heard of that one! Maybe it didn't have enough cowbell.

Haven't played it in a while, but it sounds an awful lot like Burn:Cycle.

To be honest, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen or played the game so all I was going on was the sci-fi noir theme and this is the game that stood out to me.

Loved this game, although I didn't get very far. I'm really hoping that GOG gets this one someday, but I'll bet the soundtrack alone prevents that.

It wasn't one of the Journeyman Project games, was it?

I never heard of that game. I checked on MobyGames, and clearly it was nothing I've ever seen. Am I the only one?

I had heard the name, but I couldn't recall anything else about it.

I actually had a copy of Angel Devoid for the Mac back in the day, but I don't recall actually playing it.

Looking at Ripper, it amazes me how much talent they can cram into an FMV game and it's still totally unmemorable. I didn't even know Burgess Meredith was still alive in 1996. Wow, just wow.
