Default Need help finding a game too.

I remember playing a game when I was younger on PC. Probably on Win 95-98, early 90s - early 2000's. It had an overhead view. The person you played as looked kind of like the guy from Comix Zone mixed with a little Johnny Bravo, and I think it showed the character on the title screen. It played in a window, not fullscreen as far as I know. It had graphics like a 16-bit game. It may have been a series, as I somewhat remember there being more than just one installed. It was also probably downloaded off of the internet, as it didn't seem like it would come on a CD. Probably freeware or shareware.

Not a bad memory of a game I probably played once when I was 3.

When you were 3?! I wish that I had half the memory that you do!

It sounds at least a bit like Commander Keen -- perhaps this installment (it was a series, and some of it was released as shareware; I played this one a LOT): http://www.commander-keen.com/secret-of-the-oracle.php

Edit: The map screen is overhead; the actual levels are not, so perhaps this isn't it after all?

It's definately not Commander Keen. My game was only overhead and not platforming. Still a fun series though.

This game was probably something from a smaller company. I could be wrong though.

I can almost remember that the first level took place in a library or something. The guy might have gotten there in a helicopter, but I may be wrong.

Well, it was only in 2001, and I probably have half the memory YOU have.

I actually got the PC this game was on. Unfortunately, the OS won't boot, but I could still see all the files in DOS. The OS on it was Windows 2000 upgraded from 98SE. I couldn't really tell much from just file names, but I saw some programs and directories. JAMELL~1 & POISON~1 are directories I found interesting, and I also saw something called GRABIT.EXE in another directory. There were some Unreal Tournament games on there too. Not sure if this helps much.

The OS crashes during the splash screen. It says to use chkdsk /d to check for corruption.

EDIT: These directories (except for the Unreal games) were all in a directory titled UNZIPPED. Old shareware came in zipped files, right?

I'm guessing Zombies Ate My Neighbors on some type of emulator. Emulators were already around by 2001.

It looks similar to what I played, but I don't remember shooting or zombies in the game. I also remember the game booted once you clicked on it in the Start menu, unlike emulators where you need to select a ROM first. Even if you could have a shortcut to a specific ROM, I don't think the person who owned the computer knows what an emulator is

I don't know if it had scrolling like Zombies Ate My Neighbors, you probably just played one screen at a time. I can remember the game icon in the menu might have been a brick wall or the character's face. The character with spiky hair in Zombies Ate My Neighbors reminds me of the guy you play as in my game.

It would help if we knew what kind of game it was. "Top view and has a character like Jonny Bravo" could describe a game in any genre.

Castle of the Winds, maybe? Soldier of Fortune? Crusader: No Remorse? Loaded (aka The Dame Was Loaded)? Ghoul Patrol? (I'm just thinking of any game that even loosely fits the description)

EDIT: This is an arcade game, but there might have been a PC port... could it possibly be Total Carnage?

I remember it had sprites, not 3D graphics. I don't remember being able to move at diagonals either.

Now that I think about it, it played like Sokoban, but you didn't move blocks. I can also remember the first screen of the first level not having any enemies. You moved around the levels like you do in Bomberman.

It's starting to sound like Chip's Challenge now.

Don't think that's it, but I may have played that one too. The screen you played in was like Bomberman in that it scrolled left and right, but not up and down. I remember having a lot of shareware and Cosmi discs at the time too.
