Default I need some Turbografx 16 recommendations.

    Games I currently have:

    Dungeon Exlporer
    Ninja Spirit
    Keith Courage
    Bonk's Revenge

I mainly like sidecrolling platformers more than anything.

Also I would be willing to get a space ship Shmup if it is easy because I suck at them so I wouldnt want a hard one, also I like when they look like a human being the ships sort of like Sega's Space Harrier

    Games I'm currently considering are:
Blazing Lazers or Legendary Axe 1 or 2.

A few last notes, only affordable Turbografx games nothing real hard to find or expensive, and only US released games because I only have the US Turbografx 16

    Thanks.

Well there is always Splatterhouse and the legendary axe game are pretty good as well.

As far as shooters go, I always liked cyber core personally as well.

It's hard to say what really qualifies as reasonably affordable these days, but adding on to the other recommendations so far for platformers that shouldn't be too hard to track down, I'm fond of the following:

    - Bonk's Adventure, it's kind of a no-brainer and goes without saying since you already have Bonk's Revenge. Compared to Bonk's Revenge, it isn't as polished graphically and the level design isn't as elaborate, but the music is fantastic and the game is just a lot of fun to play through. My favourite of the series.

    - Dragon's Curse, it may not be the pace you're looking for, as there are some RPG and exploration elements involved, but there's enjoyable sidescrolling action to be had here. Alternately, you may have an easier time finding this on the SMS as Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap, but I would recommend the TG16 version mainly for the music.

    - Ghost Manor, many folks seem to dislike this one and it's definitely a peculiar platformer. Jumping controls are fairly cumbersome, the player sprite is seriously unappealing and getting through this thing is no easy task. Despite all that, this is one I come back to routinely whenever I fire up my TG16. The game world is big and interconnected but there's more or less a linear progression through it. If you can find it fairly cheap, I'd say it's worth taking a chance on.

    - J.J. and Jeff, it plays a lot like Adventure Island, only set in a variety of fairly drab locales and featuring some weird humour that didn't really make it through localization intact. It should be much easier/cheaper to get your hands on this than New Adventure Island if you're looking for a game of this play style. It's pretty fun and one that's grown on me.

    - New Adventure Island, an immensely good game of Adventure Island, it does everything right.

To satisfy your shmup conditions, perhaps consider the following:

    - Ordyne, a fun & cutesy horizontal shooter with buyable upgrades and a Darius-style gun-and-bombs combo. The game places you in control of a ship but the cartoony pilot is plainly visible.

    - Side Arms, even though I feel this isn't anything special, you play as a decidedly human-shaped dude and it may thusly hold appeal.

    - Space Harrier, while it's a very solid and enjoyable port, it may be unnecessary if you're all Space Harrier'd out from other sources.

Of the three games you're already considering, I say get them all, if you're able to. I consider Legendary Axe II a more entertaining game than its predecessor but the two are different enough that there's no reason to exclude one over the other. Blazing Lazers is one of the best shmups ever, featuring a large assortment of weaponry, endless action, tons of variety in enemies and stages... this is a game I could play any time of any day.

If we're talking about north american hucard only, the top 5 I'd recommend are:

    • Bonk's Adventure
    • Blazing Lasers
    • R-Type
    • Ninja Spirit
    • Neutopia

My final piece of advice is to watch our for counterfeit games. I recently got these from ebay and can't for the life of me get them to work.

(actually just found it using google images )

BTW, if you don't mind opening up your TG-16, making it region free with a few switches isn't hard, and would open up many other games to play.

I second blazing lazers and Legendary Axe 1 + 2.
Blazing lazers reminded me a LOT of Gunnac.

Neutopia is a really great zelda clone. it plays really well and isn't overly difficult.
I picked a copy up locally at the expensive shop for $30 and I don't regret it!

I may be alone on this one, but I actually enjoyed Double Dungeons.... But I like crawlers.

Ok, so far I have purchased Blazing Lazers. I am also interested in getting Sidearms, and Space Harrier.
I'm just curious as to before this thread I had no idea a Space Harrier port was on the Turbografx 16, did Sega allow this or whats the backstory behind it?

Yes, it was licensed. Sega also licensed some of its games to Famicom/NES publishers as well.
NEC also tried to make a game called Space Fantasy Zone that was like Space Harrier set in Fantasy Zone, but it was canceled. It is presumed Sega didn't like the crossover game.

Agreed, but not exactly cheap, especially for someone just starting out.

For cheaper platformers and shmups that aren't too TOO difficult (for the shmups), stuff like Blazing Lazers, Cyber-Core, Sidearms, Legendary Axe 1 and 2, Bonk's Adventure, Tiger Road (I like it at least), and maybe J. J. and Jeff are good suggestions. R-Type is cheap too, but that game's really hard and frustrating, you may not like it. (Blazing Lazers actually does get tough eventually, but it takes quite a while to get hard. R-Type... hard from the beginning, and it only gets tougher from there.)

For other genres, Dungeon Explorer, Victory Run, World Court Tennis, and maybe Final Lap Twin are good, and don't cost too much either.

If you got a Wii, there are some games you buy real cheap, well, compared to Ebay of course:

    Air Zonk
    Lords of Thunder
    Dynastic Hero
    Ys I&II
    Splatterhouse
    Soldier Blade
    Super Star Soldier
    Castlevania: Rondo of Blood (JP)

I haven't seen anyone mention it yet, so let me recommend Bomberman 94. It's like 700 Wii points and is really fun even as a one player game, which, sadly, can't be said for every Bomberman. Other than that, everyone has mentioned every kickass game other than the following exceptions: Military Madness and Devil's Crush. Neither are platformers but they are both incredible games for the system.

Most of the best ones have already been mentioned. Pac-land is very competent, I enjoy it. New Adventure Island ought to be good as well. When it comes to Turbo Chips though, I rarely play anything other than Ninja Spirit and Legendary Axe. The Turbo/Pce CD has more to offer, but not better than these.
