I think the end is near for Acclaim. From gamespot.com:

=====
Acclaim has announced that NASDAQ has issued the company an official 180-day extension (or until January 20, 2004) to bring its stock back up to $1.00 or face delisting from the NASDAQ SmallCap Market. At the deadline, the NASDAQ will determine if the company has met the requirements or if it has at least given indications that it will meet requirements, in which case, NASDAQ will grant an additional 90-day extension.

Now I know it might sound weird but even with their stocks trading at under $1.00, Acclaim relies on their stocks heavily to keep the company going. If they get delisted, it's over. And the thing is, I don't see any hope of them rising. And when they file bankrupcy, they'll blame the economy or the consoles or whatever. Fact is Acclaim is a terrible company that makes terrible games. The shit they churn out is so cookie-cutter and boring that it wouldn't entertain a person stuck alone on a desert island.

And when people weren't buying their games, what did they do? Put soft-core porn and junior high level swearing into a fucking BIKE GAME! Said game can't sell now for 9.99 new anywhere. They're going bankrupt because (1) They have no talent at all and (2) they make completely boneheaded choices. They put out BMX XXX on the Gamecube, which like it or not, has a user base of people out of the range of that game's target audience. They are clueless as to what the fans want.

I remember when Turok 2 was about to hit. Everyone LOVED Turok for whatever reason. I hated it. It sure was pretty, but it played like shit and was boring. Turok 2 was supposed to be even better and more pretty. Well, 1 out of 2 I guess. Turok 2 was the last game from Acclaim that anyone gave a shit about before it got released. BMX XXX was more of a "Good god they're desperate" type of hype. Turok 2 had ligit hype. And they dropped the ball just like they always did.

And is there another company more guilty of completely botching licenses? I mean, most of the negative stereotype that all movie licensed games suck comes from them. They've made likely over 100 movie-licensed games and I would say 95 or more of them suck. Check them out.

All the Batman games they made sucked.
All the Simpson games they made sucked.
All the Southpark games they made sucked.
Total Recall is typically on the "worst games ever made" list.
All the Wrestling games they've made sucked.

And most of the great games that Acclaim published they didn't even make themselves. Wizards & Warrior for example. This is a company with an uncanny knack for making the best concepts bland. They took made a horrible Lemmings clone and slapped the Simpsons label on it and BAM, Krusty's Fun House, which was boring to the point of Torture.

And of course, they controlled Iguana (still might, who cares), one of the most overhyped developers ever. They churned out some truly awful shit.

Acclaim is dying. Who cares... less bad games in the collections of completist. Hip Hip Horrah.
