As controversial as it might sound, I'd take the Saturn port of Virtua Fighter. I kind of love the sparseness and texture-less blocks. It really does make the game feel as if it is a fighting game ground down solely to its gameplay. That and it has a lot of nostalgic reverence for me, it was the only game I could play when I bought the system during its botched launch window there in 1995.

Super Street Fighter II HD Remix on Xbox Live Arcade. That's all I need.

For me it would have to be Mortal Kombat II on the Genesis. Me and my best friend used to spend hours beating the crap out of each other, figuring out the combos, trying to unlock the secret characters, etc. So many good memories.

Guess I'm old school, I'd go with the original Street Fighter II.

I put a lot of time into max difficulty on the SNES game, and then applied it at this summer camp I went to during the entire day locally where they had it in the rec room schooling the crap out of people. I'm no good at it anymore, probably could struggle and finish it still, but the game just was that good and really still is. I'm not huge on the 3D fighting junk except a select few, and the newer 2D games have gotten way too convoluted with meters, weird bars, cheapo combo breakers and other stupid crap taking the strategy of the more limited scope of the early 90s out of the picture.

    Ultra Street Fighter IV

I've been competitiivly playing the series ever since the release 7 years ago and still find it enjoyable. Also still learning new set-ups, and frame data everyday! The last version also is the most solid, before in tournaments the top 10 competitors would use more-or-less the same 3 over-powered fighters, now look at the tournament brackets, a mixture of characters proving everybody is a threat and can be used at a high level to compete and win.
