    Default September 2012 finds

Found some old boxed/sealed pc games at Salvation army for 50 cents each:

Zoop and Upwords are sealed the rest are complete, except for sharky's pool, it's missing the disks, but has alll the inserts. I'm a sucker for old pc games, especially when boxed!

I loaded up my car today and headed to the flea market to sell some crap before I move. Unfortunately, the poor Saturn sedan cannot hold everything and I was forced to leave many things at the house. Still made $140 though, so I can't complain. Easier than transporting it to my new house.

Found a couple of things too:

$2 - Copy of Sonic Chaos (GG)
$5 - vintage Akai cassette player
$15 - vintage Yamaha turntable in box
    $5 - vintage Sherwood 70 + 70 SCA-2100 car amp

My uncle (who came with me) lucked out and found a $100 pair of Steiner binoculars for $3. He also got a huge crate of PS2 games and a system for $30. The Akai and Yamaha should be easy flips before I move and the Sherwood is going in my car as I blew my last Sherwood. You can't find that vintage sound anymore.

I saw a lot of things, way too expensive though. Some lady was trying to sell me a loose white 360 for $75 and there was a controller sitting on top. She said that was an extra $20 and it was so cheap because "it didn't have the battery". Then you had a lady selling loose PS2's for $35 and another lady who wanted $50 for a copy of Skyrim because "GameStop sells it for $55". Oh, and I had a conversation with a man whom I believe was intoxicated that told me he had been selling on eBay since '89 (yes, eighty) and was complaining about them holding his money. I liked him though as he bought $20 worth of loot from me.

Red GBA SP system with carrying case and....charger!!!
    Namco Museum(GBA)
    Mario Kart: Super Circuit(GBA)
    Mario Party Advance(GBA)
    Legend of Zelda(GBA)
    Super Mario Advance 4(GBA)

This was a craigs list find that I got for $30 total. Theres some good stuff in there but I was just surpirsed that I finally found a GBA SP in the wild that actually came with it's charger. Super Mario Advance 4 even included the sealed packs of e-reader cards.

    Thin book shelf $10

This was from Goodwill the other day and it's cheaper than the white one I got a few months ago there. That one was of better quality since this one's shelf holders prevent you from stacking things flush against the edges because of their bulkiness. I would much rather have the normal size bookshelves but because my space is a bit limited I need to stick to these for now. When I move again next year I'll be able to get more big shelves.

    Mario Kart 64(N64) $4
Fifty Shades II: Darker book $1.50
    Brute Force book 50 cents
Magic Knight Rayearth season one dvd $4
Star Wars Republic Commando: Hard Contact book 50 cents
Star Wars Republic Commando: Triple Zero book 50 cents
    Crimson Skies book 50 cents
Penthouse Interactive Virtual Photo Shoot 1-3(PC) $5

With the exception of the photo shoot disc all of this stuff was from Goodwill. That Mario Kart 64 cart has one of the most messed up labels ever. It was peeling and ripped on the back and the front. I'm not sure what the previous owner was trying to do but it looks like a trauma unit victim. The Brute Force and Crimson Skies books are nice oddities. They were both released around when the first Halo novel released but because their games weren't nearly as popular as Halo they became lost to time while Halo continues to get new novels even today 11 years later. The part of MD where I work(and use to live) had banned all the Fifty Shades novels over the summer from all the county libraries because parents were complaining that they were pornographic in nature, which pretty much translates to: theres a sex scene in the book and I don't want little Junior to read it. I'm sure by the time I finish this book I will be able to say theres more sexual activity on daytime soaps(the ones that are left) than in here.

The Star Wars books are direct tie-in's to the Xbox game of the same name. They are also by Karen Traviss, who's written all of the Gears of War novels and even wrote the story for the third game so they should be a good read. I picked up the Penthouse disc because I am practicing phtography. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it

    Avatar bluray/dvd combo $1
    Source Code bluray $1

Don't get too jealous. All those free DS and 3DS games would have been alot more impressive if, you know, they had actual games in them. When I got to one of the yard sales this morning a woman had a bunch of games for various systems. I asked her how much the DS games were and she said $5 each but that she had to check them first because her grandson had taken some of them out to put in his carrying case. So she starts looking thru a few and she's throwing them on the ground after seeing that one by one the games are missing(her grandson decided he didn't need any of the cases). So I told her that if she was just going to throw them away I'd take them off her hands and she agreed. So I saved all these guys from going to the local landfill and thus helped the planet heal one small step at a time. It was worth it though since around half of them not only have manuals but also points cards. I'm still debating on rather to sell them individually or in lots.

I took a chance on the Sailor Moon dvds since I didn't know whats worth what. But they were the first dvds I've saw of them at Goodwill so I snatched them up. At worst I can always just include them in my Lunar plushie auction. I have never watched Avatar and don't give a rat's ass about 3D but I couldn't pass it up at that price. Unfortunately the dvd disc was missing so I'll have to watch it on my PS3. They also had Inception on bluray for $1. At first I felt bad for leaving it there but then I realized how badly that movie sucked so I did the right thing.

On a whim I decided to stay up past my early morning bed time (I work nights, and typicality go to bed by 4AM, which makes hitting the flea markets tricky) and drive a half-hour to a flea market I've heard talked about, the Mansfield Drive-In & Flea Market in South Eastern CT. I gotta say, it did not disappoint. And much more 'open air' then the other two Flea Markets closer to me. Which are both enclosed and have more permanent shops. Also it was a pretty big spread, and it drew a huge crowd. I'll definitely be going back again soon.

    Here's my haul

Odama & Festers Quest were priced $2 each (Fester's Quest is a gift for a friend)
TMNT II The Arcade Game & Mighty Morphin Power Rangers were $4 together
Bomberman, Kings Quest V, & Ikari Warriors were priced $1, $2, & $3 respectfully, paid $5 for all three (I had no idea there even was a Kings Quest V for NES. And Konami did the port? WTF)
Megaman Zero & Megaman Battle Network 3: White were priced $5 each. Paid $7 for both
Pokemon Fire Red & Megaman Starforce Pegasus were $4 together (I have no idea what Megaman Starforce Pegasus is, I'm assuming a Battle Network spin-off)

I also randomly picked up a pair of vintage 70s girly mags on a whim because they were loaded with gorgeous drawn pin-ups and comic strips by some really talented artists (Dan Decarlo, Bill Ward, and Bill Wenzel to name a few). Got those for four bucks, and I think I've found something odd to hunt for at Flea Markets in the future.

So, in total I walked into the Flea Market with $40, and came out with $8. I think I did pretty good. I stayed strong and didn't over pay for a copy of Mario All-Star and Star Fox I wanted. Next time Gadget, Next Time!

Oh, and I forgot to mention. My biggest disappointment of the day was, I came upon a guy with a box full of Super Famicom games (and a handful of other Japanese edition games) for $7 a piece. There were some interesting games in there; Mario World, Chrono Trigger, a whole bunch of Gundam games. But because I had no idea the value of Super Famicom games I had to pass on them. I wish I hadn't had to, it would have been a huge windfall to jump start my Super Famicom collection but I just didn't know how actually rare or obscure any of it actually was.

I see a bootleg copy of Mario Party Advance, still a nice lot for that price.

Most Super Famicom games aren't worth much, even if they're complete. RPGs aren't worth near as much as the North American versions. You did well to pass on them, assuming there wasn't anything like Rendering Ranger in the box.

I wonder why pirates sometimes put an RP rating on their boxes and cartridges. Are they even trying to fool anyone?

Oh man I loved Sharkey's 3D pool. I had it CIB like this too. It was a great game in its time. Too bad the disks are missing because that's a find.
