Default MadCatz "PC CON" Analog Joystick Malfunctioning

Yes, this is a pretty cheap piece of hardware, but it's actually got a pretty nice shape and I suspect it would be costly to find something similar.

The pad was working quite nicely for a while, but now the analog joystick generally constantly registers as being pressed to the right, even if I try recalibrating it in the relevant Windows Control Panel. I've tried it on three different PCs; it's definitely a problem with the pad itself.

My only clue is that pressing the right shoulder trigger (the problematic stick is under the left trigger) causes the joystick to be registered as pushed slightly to the left.

Any ideas what the problem might be?

I guess this is not a typical joystick problem.
