Default Super Mario Kart (SNES) its glitch out of his mind

Hi everyone, i pop my copy of Super mario kart on my snes, the title screen seems alright as well of the menus, but as soon the race start it becacame glitch hell, no game play what so ever.
Every thing is clean, because other games like super mario world, star fox, mortal kombat and r-type works fine. Anyone know why the game with the DSP-1 dosn't work?

Probably bit rot, as in the cartridge is dead in places.

Thats something people arent taking into consideration when they buy or sell games for $250, that the games will be only good for their casings within a few years most likely.

    No no no.

Prototypes suffer bit rot because they contain EPROMs. Production cartridges almost always contain mask ROMs which should last at least as long as we do.

Edit: Yes, I'm aware that there are some obscure games, almost always unlicensed ones, which do actually use EPROMs. Super Mario Kart is not one of these.

I'm thinking the problem comes from the console, because now i have 2 copies of the game and they act the same way

Your console has an issue interacting with the DSP chip in Super Mario Kart. If you have any other DSP games like Pilotwings, I guarantee you that they will also suffer.

Don't worry about what IHatedSega claims since it's nonsense.

Years ago I had similar issues with this game also, but only in one of two SNES consoles. As soon as the race started, the graphics would go screwy and the game was unplayable.

The cart worked fine in another console, so your comment sounds very likely.

It seems that it is a common problem, im looking forward on modding this bad boy, so if you know a way in to fix it or know the reason why it happens it would help me a lot

I'd look to mod another SNES then, or at least consider just picking up another used motherboard.

Im sorry, just from experiences I dont trust things to last as long as most people think. Id be so happy if these cartridges work 50 years from now though.

Disks I hope stay good too over time.

well, the cd can scratch and they never the same again, and something tell me that the cartridge will be working years after my death, of course, with the proper care, both will go for the long run.

and i am at the middle of modding of the snes, so im going forward, just no mario kart for this one, but my girlfriend have a snes working great, so i will live... just with a little insomnia because of the mario kart

Well yeah disks scratch easy no matter how careful you are they will be after playing the games for hours every day for a long time. This is why Im so into emulation. Id suck if you kept your disks clean and scratch free and then 10 years later finally wanted to play a game and bit rot happened in that time.

Thats good for cartridges. The Gameover thinker said maybe games should be run off of flash drive cartridges or something like that and I agree with him.

Discs scratch easily if you don't handle them carefully. There's absolutely no reason that a disc "must" become scratched with prolonged use and handling. MY very first PS1 game still looks damned near new (Jumping Flash).
