Default What Effect Will Wreck It Ralph Have On Collecting?

Wreck It Ralph is an awesome movie and if you haven't seen it yet you really should. But it makes me wonder: Will there now be a wave of new people coming into the collecting scene? If so, what effect will that have on pricing? Will they go up? Down? Stay the same? What do you guys think?

Personally, I don't think it will have any significant impact. Some folks may get a brief wave of nostalgia for games they hadn't thought about in years, but seems like a stretch to translate that into spending significant or consistent money and time.

I have to agree with this guy. The most it would do is make people feel nostalgic for classic games. nonetheless it just be a fun little adventure.

Honestly, the thing that affects value is everyone caring about value. Every other thread is about what somthing is worth and is this item rare. I don't understand why people get in this at such a late time worrying about value. Cost are already high so we aren't really finding a lot of "deals".

It'll probably make Q-Bert loose carts worth $6 instead of $4.

In all honesty, I don't think something like Wreck-It-Ralph will have an kind of impact on the values of games. Articles on Yahoo News and such about people getting thousands of dollars for certain rare items will make prices spike. The movie may want to make some people buy up some older games to play, or break out thier old systems that they have had in the closet since the 80s. As far as making collectors, like some of us here, out of people is very unlikely. Its possible it could spark some interest in collecting for some people, but maybe not to the point where itll effect prices.

I highly doubt it will have any effect, those who see it who dont really play games or havnt in a long time and if the film re-ignites that spark Im sure most people will just go for the R0MZ or virtual console downloads. I dont see the uncommon gamer going all out and buying a 2600, NES, or whatever and all the games possible.....maybe a couple people will, but that wont make much of an impact Im sure....

The movie was good and did OK at the box office but it didn't become a cultural phenomenon. So it won't have any effect on the value of classic video games.

none. I think there may be companies like Jakks that try to pump out more of those hand held games, but everything to the masses is downloadable now.

I could see where stuff like retro duo and supaboy might be hot items this christmas season for the true gamer.

But after all the dust is settled that gamer will probably get like 4 or 5 games to play on said device and call it good feeling like they got their retro fix.

I was actually disappointed there weren't more real direct references to classic games beyond some brief cameo's by Pacman characters, Tapper, and Q-bert of course (I think I saw the Burgertime Chef in one scene)

As for it affecting prices of old games I hardly think it would. The movie wasn't even really about any of that, it was about all the made up characters from made up games that frankly weren't the least bit interesting.

    Hard to say.

The market is totally spiking right now either way. If it does have an affect, it might be hard to distinguish such from the ballooning that's already going on.

The jolt of nostalgia might make a few collectors here and there. Everyone has a story of how they got started. Heck, a lot of people got started collecting solely because of emulation...and that was supposedly going to make games drastically loose value.

Yeah, I think if anyone that has any nostalgia for that era hasn't already started collecting before the movie, they're not going to start now.

It's just gonna be used as the latest line of crap that resellers and gougers will be saying to justify their prices. It'll be $2500 Tron machines in 2010 all over again.
