Lightbulb 007 Legends developers Eurocom staff being cut to 'under 50' [Joystiq]

Eurocom, which most recently worked on 007 Legends, experienced massive layoffs today. GamesIndustry received a statement from the developer that it let go of a majority of over 200 employees today.

"We've fought to try and save as many jobs as possible, but the steep decline in demand for console games, culminating in a number of console projects falling through in the last week, left us with no option," the statement to GI.biz reads. "Eurocom has retained a core staff of just under 50 employees and will be focusing mainly on mobile opportunities moving forward."

007 Legends was not well received by critics, with a current Metacritic of 45. Prior to that, Eurocom made the Goldeneye 007 remake and Dead Space: Extraction, which will always hold a special place in Joystiq's heart for giving us Dead Space Girl.007 Legends developers Eurocom staff being cut to 'under 50' originally appeared on Joystiq on Fri, 23 Nov 2012 12:00:00 EST. good..they should just shut the doors..With Goldeneye Reloaded, which was a good game with lots of issues that could have been fixed with a patch..They did nothing, and then 007 Legends has to be one of the worst games i have ever played...The online multiplayer was a joke with horrible graphics, and game play, and fram rate, and level design, and a single player campain that is just as laughable..this game belongs with ataris ET out in a desert landfill.

So you know, sometimes it's not up to the dev to deliver the patches. Sometimes the publisher is the one that refuses to budget for them.

At first I was like, but Call of Duty gets tons of patches, then realized it's Call of Duty. That and the final product is a beta build, maybe even alpha build, so of course it gets patched. They release it then finish the game up with all the bitching about how many problems it has.
Everything in the above post is opinion unless stated otherwise.

The World Is Not Enough was a good game on N64, though the multiplayer stunk. Nightfire 007 was a fantastic game. Haven't played the newer ones they've done for Activision, but I don't think they've been well received, beginning with Quantum of Solace. Not sure if that's their fault or not. I think the criticism is the games are too short/MP too limited, and that definitely comes down to budgeting.

I agree. Eurocom's work on the SNES, N64, and GameCube was solid, and often excellent (Mortal Kombat 4, Tarzan, NBA Showtime, 007: The World Is not Enough, 007: Nightfire, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, etc.).

Dead Space: Extraction was well-received on the Wii, too. I haven't kept up with the company the past few years, but I hope the people who were let go find work elsewhere.
