Default PS X Change V2 Boot Disc

Got some imports as gifts for the PS1 ...no way to play them, was just curious if anyone has any experience with this particular disc,
    http://www.ps2cover.com/products/PS-...Boot-Disc.html
Maybe there's a better product, and if the site is legit.

Each download site looks shadier than the last so I'd much rather just pay for the product outright.
I intend to use it on my slim PS1 and if it works get one also for my ps2.
I know there are ways to add chips, or rig the door,...I'm just looking for something requiring the least hassle.
Ps3's aren't region locked so I suppose products like this aren't going to be necessary much longer unless Sony farms out the copyrights for a clone a few years from now like the FC twin or Retron 3.

    Well, that's all really.
Appreciate your time and Happy New Year!

That should work for ps1 games with the ps1.

I'm pretty sure it takes three separate boot discs to do everything.

Oh yeah, I meant to say I know they have another disc for the PS2.
From what I can gather, you run the disc to boot up the system, then just pop it open and switch out the boot disc with the import.

    Damn region locks.
Amazing it took companies so long to realize what an issue this is.
I know it was to protect regional sales but jeez.

Another reason carts were so much easier.
Oh well, outside of the rare collectors edition I don't think well be seeing actual physical games for much longer.

I'm not exactly sure when games being able to identify a console started. I know Master System could. Games like Power Strike and Cloud Master changed whether they were run on English or Japanese.

As far as I can remember, portable systems like the Game boy and Game gear, even the GBA never had region lock outs.
Maybe there were a few but I never came across any.
Since the consoles were self contained, none of the NTSC / PAL hang ups occurred.

Obviously the Famicom and NES but they were altogether different consoles, even number of pins.
Genesis and Mega drive were good until '92 when they put the lock outs into the game, but a outside of looking awful, a game genie was an easy enough fix.

Funny how the clone systems can easily exploit games that have both Japanese or English text and any lock outs built into the games go all but ignored.

I've even noticed some MP3 sites will have a different availability of songs from the same artist based on region.

I guess legal reasons, but for fans of such things it feels very unnecessary.

Pretty much. Game Gear was set to either ENG or JPN. Some games had differences that way. But all units use 60hz, leading to backwards compatibility issues for some PAL SMS games.

This is the exact swap disc I use for my PS1's. I don't use it much anymore though because I had a friend on here modchip some systems for me. Some games like King's Field J (original release) won't boot with a swap disc because their data ring on the disc is too small.

I'm a collector, but only to a certain extent.
Not as extreme as Rickstilwell though.[/quote]

Has anyone ever had any dealings with the website mentioned in the original post (www.ps2cover.com)?
They actually have an HD Loader for the PS2, which I've been looking for forever, but I'm reluctant to use them without knowing if they're reputable...

    I have one.

If you're just using it on a PS1 it works fine for the most part. A few limitations, but it should get any imports going.

However, the slim PS1 is a BIT tough to rig with a spring or rig that will fake out the door button, and if you perma-rig the button as "closed" you'll never be able to play any dual-disc games, burns or genuine. If you're handy with a soldering iron you can set up a door "switch" on the exterior of the system, but that might be overkill for what you need.

Original PS1 that you can throw a spring in the door button is easier to use with one of these.

Just something to take into consideration.
