Default Quick question about charging the 3DS XL

    Hey guys!

I've been planning to get the 3DS XL for while now, and as it turns out, I just ran into some cash. Only problem; The 3DS XL apparently does not come with a charger.
I do not have a DSi or a 3DS charger laying around. The pictures I've seen, however, it looks just like normal mini USB thingie.
    Normal Mini USB: http://www.ever-brighter.net/upfile/20113211008200.jpg
    3DS XL Charger: http://oyster.ignimgs.com/wordpress/...2937551746.jpg

Obviously, I would be saving myself 10-15€ if I can charge my 3DS XL with a mini usb cable, since I have dozens of those laying around the house. But I would rather not risk it. If anyone could just simply inform me if I seriously need the charger-charger, I would be very thankful.

Thanks in advance, guys. You are all awesome.

I see no reason why it wouldn't work. IMHO though, it wouldn't hurt to have the standard charger as a backup.

The 3DS XL shares a charger size/style with the DSi, DSi XL and original 3DS.

Any of those or chargers listed as compatible will the above DS'es will work fine with the 3DS XL.

It is not just a USB mini cable, but apparently it will charge with a compatible USB cable, like this:

I remember buying a PSP from a local game store and I had to buy the power cord separately, I reckon it was $14 to. But yeah the 3DS uses a specific power input, so you'll need a cord that works with a 3DS. I believe the DS uses the same cord.

My PSP's all came with chargers.

I thought the 3DSXL only came without a charger in Japan?

Europe, Australia and Japan did not include chargers. I suppose Nintendo thinks that a large enough percentage of 3DS XL buyers have a DSi, DSi XL or 3DS and have available power supplies.

    Cost cutting at its worst.

Glad I live in the US then as my XL did come with one and the last DS I got before that was a launch DS lite in 2006 with cracked hinges.

Life!? ... What console is that on?

Guess they're not used to consumers like me that jumped from an original DS to a 3DSXL. Luckily US systems have a power supply.

I guess not, and while I do hate their decision to not include the adapter in those regions, they're probably right that the MAJORITY have invested in at least ONE of the prior model DS'es with a compatible plug.

Even if not, there is absolutely no shortage of compatible adapters out there.

Gamestop makes nice universal ones that have interchangeable tips for all model DS'es and a USB cord that plugs into the power brick. (so you can charge via USB or wall plug)

Same here. Though I never did use the original DS's power supply, since I had a GBASP,

But man, I would be pissed if I bought an XL and then had to shell out for a power supply. It's like, who cares if a huge percentage of the buyers already have one, it's still something you absolutely need to use the system. Leave out the SD card if you want to reduce cost, sheesh.

Even if you already had the correct adapter from an old console not including one with the new system means that a person can't sell or trade their old system after upgrading, how can you sell a used system to someone without an adapter? It really just seems cheap.

Reminds me of my first Sega Game Gear. Sure, it could run on batteries for a good half hour. But in reality we had to go back out to Toys R Us on my birthday to hunt down a power pak. :P

Nice to know children of the current generation are reliving my childhood buzz kill.

Except that the Game Gear could run on AA batteries and the 3DS XL has a built in battery so if it goes dead you're screwed completely without the charging cable.

And they typically don't come out of the box with a full charge anyway. One of the first things the manual tells you to do is charge it right away.
