    Default Donkey Kong NES

    Hi,

I'm not 100% sure this is the right section, but I'll go ahead.

I ordered the Donkey Kong arcade classic off of eBay and it was advertised as being the "original"

    ie: http://www.mariowiki.com/Donkey_Kong_(game)

However I just received it and it is the Classics cartridge containing Donkey Kong & Donkey Kong Jr.

    such as this: http://www.mariowiki.com/Donkey_Kong_Classics

I am aware that I basically got 2 games for the price of one, but I have a more fundamental question I'd like to ask you more knowledgeable people in the field.

I specifically ordered (or thought I ordered) the "original" game because I wasn't particularly interested in the Jr one and paid more for it as I'm presuming it might be a little more rare. The Classics cartridge cost quite a bit less and I feel burnt.

Does the original NES release have more value, and would it be justified to contact the seller and ask for a refund/exchange over this?

To help with more info, here is the item I ordered:
    http://www.ebay.ca/itm/230788888639?...#ht_500wt_1156

    This is what I got:

    Thanks for your help!

I don't now about comparable monetary value between the two NES cartridges, but do believe they are both the same game ROM file for DK. Are you justified in asking for a refund/exchange? Of course. The seller did not deliver the game advertised in the auction. Up to you if you want to pursue it.

If you paid more for the first cart, you should get a refund of the price difference. The only reason to get each of them separately is if you are trying to collect and not game. If you want it just to play, take the refunded difference and keep the cart you got.

After looking at the auction I would be upset too. I am not saying the guy knew the difference between the games, but seeing he has hundreds of others for sale it is likely. The original is worth a bit more than the one you received. I would contact the guy and give him a chance to make it right. I can see the mix-up happening with a stock photo, but there was a home photo of the game taken.

I've bought a few games from that guy and never had a problem. Have you contacted him about an exchange?

The original NES release of just Donkey Kong is worth about twice as much as the Donkey Kong Classics version, the original version is much rarer and people tend to collect the early black box games more than the later releases. You should contact the seller to fix this, the Classics version is only worth about $10.

Thanks for your inputs guys, I'll be sure to contact the seller in this case and ask for a refund in the price difference of the two products.

They aren't 100% the same. The jumping sound effect for Mario is a little bit lower pitched in the DK Classics version.

I'm a collector, but only to a certain extent.
Not as extreme as Rickstilwell though.[/quote]

So I contacted the seller last light explaining the situation and asked for a $10 refund. By this morning he had already issued the refund and apologized for the error. All is well

Thanks again to everyone for your inputs, much appreciated!
