Default Anyone Played Ape Escape? I Love It.

I bought it after playing a demo, the concept was so cool, the graphics and music were awesome and the controls were really different from past games I had played. Its really the only game Ive played where the second analog stick was used a lot. Plat formers like Crash and Spyro were more popular on the PS1, but I wonder why this game isnt talked about more. I heard the second game wasnt great but the 3rd one was very good. Still this is the most under-talked about games I can think of that I loved as a kid. It wasnt a kiddy game to me really but it wasnt trying to be a game for older teens, all the girls in the game have small chests. One of those games that was pretty original and didnt try to be like other games out there at the time, though one level is like another from OoT. It mixed so many things with the time travel aspect too. I cant think of any criticisms, if you find it at a store pick it up, or buy it off the PSN.

I have a demo disk somewhere that has a one level preview of the game. I do remember playing it a number of times. Never had a chance to sit down with the full game, though.

Yes! I loved that game back in the day.

Unfortunately, it wouldn't work with the cool 3rd party controller I was using at the time, so I had to switch back to the uncomfortable (in my opinion) standard PSX controller.

My favorite part of the game are the remote controlled car levels. SO very innovative!

How is it uncomfortable to you? The PS2 controller is my favorite of all time. Was it using your right thumb for the weapons? I loved that they moved the jumping to the R buttons with that.

I'm also not at all a fan of the PS controller design. Sloppy ergonomics IMO. My thumbs always want to slide if the sticks. I'm constantly having to re-adjust my thumbs. Always seems arrogan that Sony insists upon it being such a good design by carrying it over 3 generations. I can't stand how the D-pad STILL takes precedence over the left stick and it's 2012. That's Sony for ya' though.

I have long boney fingers, cant really put the normal Saturn controller in my hands properly sorta(its a great controller though), but I love the PS controller. YOu guys like the XBOX and WII U design better? Im just used to the placement of the analog sticks with PS that Im not a fan of the XBOX one. Why are Dpads still made though? I even prefer using an analog stick over a Dpad when I play NES games on my computer. XD

There's actually a lot of people who prefer playing with the d-pad.

I'm a collector, but only to a certain extent.

A lot of games were designed for the digital pad and while all of them are playable using analog, your actions using digital will be more accurate.
Everything in the above post is opinion unless stated otherwise.

The game is best played with the Dual Analog controller, rather than its retarded sibling, the DualShock.

If you liked Ape Escape 1 on PS1 (and it is awesome)

    Try 2 and 3 on PS2, they're also a lot of fun!

I agree with much of what's been said, here. The fact that the d-pad takes the prime spot on a "modern" controller doesn't make sense. And even if someone does prefer the d-pad (I get it, believe me), so many games don't use it for actual movement. Often it's for cycling through inventory, or changing camera views.

For my it's really just a personal preference thing with the PS controller. I simply "don't like how it feels". The GameCube, with handles that seem to perfectly model the space left inside my closed/gripping hands, has what I consider to be the "best" controller of all time, while the SNES has my "favorite", or the one that feels the most "right" to me.

Wow, that's interesting. Why do you say that? I always assumed that the Dual Analog controller was simply a Dual Shock without the rumble spinners. Is that not the case?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dual_Analog_Controller

The dual analog is an odd beast for sure and I've never heard anybody call it superior to the Dual Shock myself.

The single rumble motor in the Japanese version has a totally different feel than the Dual Shock's spinners.

I recall somebody trading one in at Funcoland and the very first time that I felt it "vibrate" (a feature that I had never experienced before and wasn't strictly expecting to occur) during a test play of Rally Cross I practically flung the controller out of my hands out of shock and surprise.

One nice thing about it is that it has the "flightstick" mode for those few PS1 games that were made for those MASSIVE PS1 flight stick analogs.
