    Default February 2013 finds

    Guess I'll start this off.

Stopped at a few Goodwills and found all of the following for about $50 total. Not pictured is seven girly adult mangas for my girlfriend.

Also not game related, but I needed a new radio for a 97 Camry I just bought as it still had the OEM radio in it. I decided I wanted the Pioneer DEH-P8400BH. It sells for about $170-$190 in retail stores still, and online for $130 and up. I found an open box at best buy that was still brand new for $90 plus they had a %10 open box sale going on so it was even cheaper!

Just got a couple of Steam games in trades: Don't Starve (a survival game by the developers of Shank and Mark of the Ninja) and Mini Ninjas (by... the Hitman / Kane & Lynch guys.)

... yeah, talk about weird dev stuff, heh. :P

    Nice wrestling score.
I been thinking about picking up some wrestling DVDs to watch at work on break. I might get a copy of the ECW and rise and fall of WCW DVDs.

Yesterday I hit up a Value Village and a Goodwill for the first time in over a month. Picked up 5 games for just under $20.

Syphon Filter, Soulblade and Medal of Honor were $2.99 each and the genesis games were $5 each
All complete besides Altered Beast. Didn't have the manual.

I was about to pick up a copy of WWF Smackdown but $2.99 was too much for it.

Mini rant: Who prices the games at Value Village? Half the games that were there had $2.99 priced on them but in the same pile also had games priced at $5.99. A handful of them were the same games as the $2.99 pile. Like wtf?

Pricing on games and gamestuff really varies at thrifts. I once went to a reuzit where a loose joe montanna football was under glass and priced at $3, a complete NFL 94 was under glass and priced at $4...And a copy of lion king for genesis complete with box, manual, gargoyles ad and full-size jungle book poster was $1. I think they thought it was a VHS tape The clerk was in her 60s and knew it was worth more, but was totally down with it because she exploited the same shop to get rare santa figurines for pennies.

They also had this plastic vertical casette tape storage rack they wanted $5 for while they wanted $3-2 for all the other storage racks. Would be nice for genesis, but a little pricey for that. Had half a mind to switch stickers but decied to just let it be in the end.

Half price books is notable for having no fucking idea what they're selling half of the time. They're always either unreasonably high or awesomely low for SEGA titles. Billy from the game chasers got BOTH shining force games on genesis COMPLETE for $5 each there, iirc. They REALLY undervalue genesis.

They're a little wiser when it comes to nintendo games, though.

Good info! Yea it seems that way because Mario kart double dash was around $35 there as well as smash bros for Wii.

went to Renninger's Flea Market in Mt. Dora, and I got a good haul.
I Ended up getting a PS1/Saturn lightgun called "The Punisher" which was one of those pre-guncon lightguns for the PS1 whose design was obviously copied from Konami's Justifier revolvers which came with Lethal Enforcers 1, along with a complete Action Max system with all of the 5 games for 20 bucks.

after walking around the place for a while, i returned to that same store and got Klax, Paperboy 2, Qix, a Game Genie for the gameboy, as well as one of those light/magnifying glass gimmicks for the GB, Hard Drivin' for the Genesis, and Mechanized Attack and To the Earth for the NES (MA and TTE were 5 bucks in total).

anyway, here's the video for it (and forgive me for sounding rather meek, since it was the first time i've done a pick-up video)

it's a good place, and they have a decent amount of game shops there. But if you're looking for good games in the Central Florida area, i often prefer Flea World since they usually have 2 or 3 shops that sell the classic game consoles which are often hard to find (i.e. Turbo Grafx and Sega Master System).

The seller had it on Craigslist as a "Sega Genesis Game", with no mention in the ad about the kiosk, console, and demo system attached to the game(s). The man who put out the ad was a very friendly older gentleman who was only just starting to learn how to use a computer. His kids had shown him how to get on the internet and a co-worker had told him about Craigslist. Needless to say, the price was very reasonable.

The kiosk is in overall great shape. All of the original parts are present and accounted for. The television displays a sharp, vibrant picture that is free of burn-in. Inside the unit is the DS-16 Demo System, which when hooked up to the button at the front of the kiosk lets you select between 6 cartridges. There is a switch on the back of the demo system that lets you select between forcing a game switch every 10 minutes (demo mode) and unlimited free play. Unfortunately, the top logo is a bit yellowed from sun exposure and the poster at the bottom is completely faded. There is also a small hole next to the controller mount. I don't know what caused it, but I'm making full use of it by routing the second controller through it. Perhaps the original owner got tired of playing solo? I'll find a replacement poster for the bottom (I'll just slide it in in-front of the old one) and I'm considering using RetroBright to restore the logo. Overall, I'm very happy with it.

This has been a great month for me. I started off by receiving a PS3 Kiosk from GameStop and now I'm finishing the month with another kiosk.
Now I just need to figure out what 6 games I want in the unit.

Damn!!! I'm jealous!!! Now I have to have one!

Some last minute minor February finds. I've been in a real slump lately, can't wait for the Flea Markets to open up again. Found all of these at a used game store at the local mall this evening...

Adventure Island (NES) $4 - A game I've never owned. But clearly a gap that needed feeling. The hard part comes next, as every sequel it has appears to be uncommon or rare.
Sonic Adventure (DC) $8 - I was thumbing through the Dreamcast pile, not expecting much. Then I pulled out a game call Armada, at least that's what the case said, inside was Sonic Adventure. So I snapped that up. Unfortunately I got it home to discover the game was rather scratched up, and would not play. I'm either going to take it back for a refund, or, preferably, see if the shop can refurbish it. I remember the guy there once saying his had a heavy duty disc refinisher.
Under a Killing Moon (PC) $3 - I thought my shopping trip was over after I check out with the above two games, but on my way out the door my eyes snapped to this just hanging out with a wall of Music CDs. Like it was just waiting for me personally. I'm a bit of an Adventure Game(TM) buff, but the Tex Murphy series has always been a major gap in my canon. Its my understanding that Under a Killing Moon is one of the best in the series, so I was really glad to find it. I've already gone through the process of getting it running via DOSBox too, so I'm hyped.

Actually, Super Adventure Island isn't all too hard to come by/cheap for SNES standards around $8-10 and is DEFINITELY worth a purchase if you liked the first for the yuzo koshiro music alone.
