    Default SNES Game Saving/Famicom Converter

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...DME:B:EOA:US:2

It just looked like an interesting piece of hardware so I figured why not. I found it while investigating my pirated SMB 3 cart. I almost used the BIN of $15 but guessed nobody else would bid on it anyway (and if they did I could live without it). I ended up paying $15.50 with shipping (since I live north of the 49th parallel), so I almost feel like I got shipping for free.

Anybody have one of these and care to comment on it?

It's pretty cool. I sold one at CGE.

It lets you save your place in an SNES game, much like a PC emulator might give you a "save state". Different than saving your game, it actually remembers where in the game you are when you save it. Works on regular batteries. I'm not sure if it's compatible with everything, but the dozen or so common titles I tried it with worked just fine.

    Have fun with it!

The auction mentions that you don't actually have to use batteries - it can also run of the SNES (or something like that). Is it a lie? Not that it matters, just curious.

I'm not even sure which games I'll use it on. Maybe I'll go through FF III again and save like mad...

Looks like a nice device, don't be surprised though if you end up paying a $5 Customs handling fee, plus tax on the assessed value...

I know it sucks but be prepared.

    Default batteries not included, BUT...

if you want to keep a saved game without having to keep the thing plugged in, you'll need batteries. the unit works perfectly, but there is some SLIGHT picture quality loss over a straight av connection,,,=^P

Am I missing something here? I always wanted a Game Saver+ badly as a kid and got one when they had been out for awhile when Wal Mart was stocking them. It turned out the thing could only keep your game saved after you turned it off if it was one of the games they gave you the codes for. As you could imagine, the list of first generation titles really didn't do me much good in 1994. I could never get through to the number they give you to get new codes, assuming there ever really were any. Was there actually a way around this or are people just not taking it into account?

@StoneCutter: I'm always prepared to pay duty if it happens. But I also always ask the seller to mark the item as a gift. 99% of the time it works.

@Li Wang: Since I don't have it yet I can't comment. But if I find something out once I get it into my eager hands I'll let you know. As long as it doesn't get held at the border I'll get it late this week/early next week.

I bought one a few months ago & found it to be pretty worthless for me. It even erased the battery on one of my cartridges.

Be careful with it before you use it on a game you already have saves on. There's some wierd button presses you have to do to save (involves the L & R triggers if I remember right) and I didn't have any instructions with mine.

    It only saves one game.

It makes your SNES look butt-ugly.

You have to put games in at a totally bunk angle.

Thinking about its uselessness now, does anyone want to buy mine?

    Default Game saver plus

I bought one of these when it came out at Wal Mart. I think it's a great little device. I haven't used on too many games, but I've had good luck with it. I know that some games required you to input a code to get it towork...strange. It functions pretty much the same way as a Game Action Replay for the NES.....which I am going to start a post about right about now.

Unfortunately, mine didn't come with instructions.

If you're facing a tough boss or something, it would come in handy to save right before you enter his liar instead of having to replay the whole level to get to that liar again.

    Default Instructions

I'm pretty sure I still have my instructions, so I can probably get some scans of it if anyone wants. Lemme know. I probably should just for the sake of archiving it anyway.

I'd appreciate that if you got a chance to do it.

Talking about it got me wishing I had written the save & load codes down so I don't have to try to figure them out again if I ever need to use the device again.

If rbudrick doesn't get to it first I'll also attempt to post the instructions I'll receive once I get them. I'll leave it up to Joe whether he'd rather see it in here or if I should just ask for email addresses.

It's too bad you can't save the games with a save game feature already intact. It would've been nice to use on the Final Fantasy type stuff. But it will also be nice to use on Ghosts 'n' Goblins I figure. And I hope to use the converter part at some point (I figured it was worth the amount for that alone - the saving bit is just a bonus).

most console rpgs have save points at or near the final boss, as far as the ones on the snes i've played... oh, and it's l-a-i-r...
