Default What are the essential fighting games to own?

I was going through my collection of fighting games and realize that I may have some holes in terms of the must have quality ones. See my list below... what am I missing? Keep in mind that while I like fighting games, I am in no way good at them. I just like playing them.

    BlazBlue Continuum Shift EXTEND
    Capcom vs SNK EO
    Garou: Mark of the Wolves
    Guilty Gear Isuka
    KoF '99 Dream Match
    Kof '99 Evolution
    Marvel vs Capcom
Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter
    Mortal Kombat Trilogy
    Project Justice: Rival Schools 2
    Rival Schools Evolution 2
    Street Fighter Alpha 3
    Vampire Savior/Darkstalkers III

    Thanks!

You need Street Fighter II in SOME form--preferably Super Street Fighter II Turbo (I've heard HD Remix is good). This is, after all, pretty much the game that put one-on-one fighters on the map. You really don't know fighters unless you know Street Fighter II, period.

After that, I'd say all the SNK collections for the PS2 (particularly Samurai Shodown Anthology and the Fatal Fury Battle Archives) are pretty essential too. Oh, and King of Fighters--there's a collection of 94 thru 98 on the PS2. KOF98 is also available by itself in an updated version called "Ultimate Match." This is probably the one to get, as KOF98 is often considered the epitome of the series.

Well, I don't see Soul Calibur, SoulBlade, Tekken Tag Tournament, Fighters Megamix, or WWF Wretlemania: The Arcade Game on that list.

    edit: Super Smash Bros.?

Just to add to what others have recommended...

    Mortal Kombat 2 over Trilogy
World Heroes 2 Jet (the best of the campy SFII-clones, IMO)
    Bloody Roar

I'm not an arcade fighter buff, so this list will be drastically different from most others.

    Genesis:

    Ballz3D
    Eternal Champions
    Samurai Shodown

    SNES:

    Mortal Kombat II
Mortal Kombat III/Ultimate Mortal Kombat III
    Street Fighter II Turbo
    Super Street Fighter II
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Tournament Fighters

    Saturn:

    Golden Axe: The Duel
    Samurai Shodown IV
    Street Fighter Alpha 3
    X-Men: Children of the Atom

    PS2:

    Capcom vs SNK 2
    Marvel vs Capcom 2
    NeoGeo Battle Coliseum
    Samurai Shodown Anthology

    GameCube:

    Soul Calibur II

    360:

    Mortal Kombat

Shaq Fu (Sega Genesis / SNES)

    ...

    Or maybe not. :P

But in all seriousness, Tekken 3 for the PS1. So much fun to play!

And maybe Clayfighter for the Sega Genesis and SNES, though I haven't really played it that much myself.

Ok, so beyond the KoF '98 titles it seems to be the consensus that King of Fighters XIII is the next one to get. Is this true?
