Default Cleaning battery acid residue and buildup

Since I did not see a thread for this subject and since some games require batteries what are some secrets that you use for cleanup of residue on metal and plastic?

Most of the time warm water and sandpaper will clean most of the problem up... but I am sure you gamers have some other ways too.... post them here

Fine grit sandpaper, and for hard to get to spots, a fiberglass brush from an electronics supply store is good too.

Sadly, that acid can do far worse than corrode the contacts. I've got a CV Turbo wheel that got it's circuit board bathed in that stuff. Dead.
