    Default Dallas/Fort Worth Retrofest

There's going to be a small gathering of retro gamers near Fort Worth April 27.

    15 dealer's tables and a swap area.

Not sure what to expect, but you can read more about it here:

Ah, so that's why I never found much in flea markets and thrift stores in that area of Fort Worth. There's a local that grabs it all up before I get there. As usual, sadly.

I'll hopefully get to go, unless I end up with a new boss who refuses to allow me to have a weekend day off (like the last five bosses I've had).

$10 is pretty dang good for a table at a convention. I'd love to consider getting one, but I'd rather be able to roam around the place freely, and especially be able to leave and get lunch whenever I wanted to.

This small show starts at 1:00, so lunch won't be a problem.

I talked to the guy from FX Game Exchange over in Plano, and he said he'll probably make it. And that there's going to be another retro gaming night at his store either the week before or after, I've already forgotten. I've missed all the other ones they've had, I've got to try and make it this time.

Aaaaaand.... I forgot about the FX Game Exchange gathering. Damn. I was actually in the area this afternoon, too. Oh well, I should have Saturday off so it looks like I'll be there (unless I forget).

I'm guessing that the gym is the large white building to the north of the main building (as viewed on Google Maps)?

And it's over there near Carswell AFB (now a naval air station). My dad was stationed there when I was a kid, pretty much grew up around airbases. Some people think the sound of jets and bombers taking off is irritating and disruptive, I find it weirdly soothing. Some relax to the sound of ocean waves or the soft pitter-patter of rain, I like the sound of a B-52 kicking in afterburners for take-off.

I came home a little while ago from the Retrofest. I've got to say, it was pretty good. Social media really helped get the word out, it was pretty well attended. Lots of good stuff and cool people. I ended up leaving somewhat early once the Game Chasers got there, since I used to work with one of those guys and never liked him.

I ended up getting Heimdall for the Sega CD along with the strategy guide, Challenge of Nexar and Crash Dive for the Atari 2600 (loose), a Japanese Mega Drive game that I can't identify because I don't read Kanji (and from the game screens on the box it seems to be a board game with mini-games on certain squares), and a Genesis/Mega Drive (not sure which console yet) called Super Two In One. According to the box the cart can have two out of a selection of 40 different games, the box says that this one should have Real Basketball and Batman on it but the cartridge says it has Alex Kidd and Soccer on it.

It turns out that there's a GameXchange nearby, too. I didn't know any were actually inside the Metroplex, I thought they were sort of outside our orbit, in places like Waxahachie, Burleson and Denton. I hope they stick around, the Fort Worth area doesn't have much in the way of stores where you can pick up classic old games at.

Here's some pictures I took at the show. Sorry there's a bit of blur, I forgot my camera and used my Blackberry Playbook's camera, the pics didn't come out all that smoothly.

For a small, first-time event, the organizers handled this show very well. Everything seemed organized, as far as I could tell, and it was obvious people were having a great time. I hope they put on this show again. I was surprised how many people showed up.
