    Default Original XBOX HDD FIles

Is there a way to copy a file from the original Xbox HDD to a PC?? I know you can with an XBOX Action Replay Max and an XBOX memory unit, but what about for the games that aren't compatible with the Memory Unit??? Any help would be appreciated????? Thanks in advance!!!!!

You can softmod your Xbox then FTP to it to grab the files.

Don't ask me how to do it, I have no clue.

FTP is very simple. You need a crossover cable (about $10). Make sure it is actually called a "crossover cable" though. Then search for an FTP program--they're free. I don't know for sure if you need to softmod first: I didn't think so but the poster above me might be correct. If you already have action replay though, that will be very easy.

Now that I think about it though, you should be able to transfer ANY file from the HD to a memory card. The game might not save to memory card, but try fiddling with the boot screen without a game in there. Find harddrive or something and there should be a list of save files, with an option to copy to the memory unit. Sorry for not being specific, I don't have my Xbox with me right now!

To FTP files to and from and Xbox, it must be hard-modded or soft-modded. A stock Xbox won't allow you to do it.

Just soft-mod your Xbox. There is absolutely no reason not to any more. It's safe, easy, and allows you to do a ton of awesome stuff with your Xbox.

You only need a crossover cable if you're connecting directly to a PC, and even then if you've got a reasonably modern PC you might not need it. If you've got a wired router, you absolutely don't need a crossover cable, just any ethernet cable.

I think you can also connect the HDD directly to your PC but... you need a desktop PC with IDE connectors, not SATA, and you have to unlock the drive first, so might as well just mod and use FTP. Sorry, I'm not entirely sure on this, it's been over a decade since I did this crap with the drive and I've just FTP'd ever since.
