Default Whaat (Stadium Events steal at a goodwill in N.C.)

    http://kotaku.com/holy-grail-of-rare...l-fo-473730982

"It's given people a lot of hope," Hamm said, referring to this thread on the Nintendo Age forums (which is either the site crashed or the thread was removed, the link doesn't work anymore. "People say that they never find anything at their Goodwill, well, the holy grail has been found there."

And now that people know about this find, nothing good will ever be found in a Goodwill again.

Goodwill hasn't had anything good in their stores since they launched shopgoodwill.com.

Except for the find posted above. Now the stores will be picked over even more, if anything slips through good luck ever finding it.

Unlikely. Finds like this happen every once in a while in video game collecting and every other pop culture hobby. It gets a little bit of press attention and then it fades. Some people might come into the market temporarily, never find anything particularly valuable and then they will go away again. It's a cycle and nothing to worry about.

    Exactly.

I say good for her for finding it.

I wonder how the game got there, since it's in nearly perfect condition and complete I wonder if the owner passed away and his relatives donated it. I have to believe someone who held on to the game for that long and in that condition knew what it was worth and would not have just handed it over after nearly thirty years.

More like they will think everything they have is golden and prices will soar on common junk.

I'm not too worried about the effect that this or any other story will have on thrift store finds. They're already pretty well picked over, but persistence pays off now and then. I don't expect to ever find something as crazy as a complete copy of Stadium Events, but I'm happy with the nice deals I've picked up on occasion. A complete copy of Secret of Monkey Island, a couple copies of The Neverhood, a complete 32X, a 3DO, Gun-Nac, Mars Matrix, etc., all at very cheap prices. I can't complain at all.

Shopgoodwill.com is only for certain regions of Goodwill though.

I found a Sonic 2 for $8 bucks at Goodwill today. I walked out the door in disgust.

The other day I saw a $6 golf game for the NES. God only knows who does the pricing there.

Good thing my nearest Goodwill has been worthless for finding cart games.
I only found a few games total, and they were the likes of Jaws for NES, F1 Race for Game Boy and Cruisin' USA.

Hell, it's been pretty impossible to find anything of interest in pretty much every Goodwill I've been to in a decade. All the eBay resellers have seen to that. And it's sadly bled over to all the little indie thrift stores, too. I haven't made a decent find since well into last year, after checking a dirty box of Atari stuff in a flea market and discovering that three of the eight or nine games inside were Commavid titles (the three least rare games out of the six released, but still, pretty awesome to find all in one go).

It's no worse than when Yahoo and other news aggregates pick up on sealed Stadium Events and Air Raid and create a fresh crush of demand on stuff for the 2k monies.

People used to be able to request used games through Game Crazy. We had DP'rs who got Stadium Events through that request system for next to nothing.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

This abd the post about this sounding fake now seem to add up. I am thinking this is fake too. Still possible. But would have to be a collector of a bygone era thats been living under a rock from the media to go "hmm this old nintendo game isnt worth anything. I am just gonna donate it to the local goodwill"
