Hooking up Atari 2600/7800 and Colecovision

Hi,

I have started collecting old consoles and I recently bought Atari 2600, Atari 7800 and Colecovision. I have trouble hooking up the video cable to my TV, I have a modern TV that doesn't have a tuner nor a place to hook these http://c.shld.net/rpx/i/s/i/spin/ima...prod_509585701 to the television.

I know I can do it via VCR but I don't have one that has a coaxial input. So my question is: Is there an alternate way to hook them up? I'm ready to buy some equipment to get them plugged in.

P.S. I have the following consoles: NES, SNES, Sega Master System, Atari Flashback 2, Retro Duo, Atari 2600, Atari 7800 and Colecovision. Master System is modded to work with RCA cable and NES is plugged in via SCART.

Doesn't radio shack sell a converter that converts that to the RYW cables?

He would need a RF De-modulator like this, that's an RF modulator. Though probably doesn't have a VGA input either.

So if I buy that I'm able to hook it up? Does it only output VGA? I can hook it to my PC screen but I'd prefer RCA

If you look at the labeling on that box it won't work, that's a composite in to Coax out setup for back when TV's with composite jacks were in the minority. These days it's the other way around. Coax jacks are getting eliminated.

I believe that you can use the digital/analog converter boxes that started to pop up when UHF signals were phased out. Those have Coax in and both coax and composite (and it some cases S-Video) out.



They run about $30-$40 or less. Can anybody confirm that those work as a pass-through for analog signal from an RF system like a 2600? I would imagine that they do.

I'm not sure if the demodulator would work, after reading it it says it only works for NTSC systems only.

I have PAL consoles (except the colecovision). I have US to EU voltage adapter.

Ah. yes, that's the rub then. Not sure exactly what you'd need for PAL.

Even though this won't help the OP, I'm curious about the answer as well. I wasn't aware that newer TVs weren't coming with coax inputs, and I might want to grab one of these converters from Dad while he still has them.

Here's an idea: Is there something that can convert PAL signal to ntsc?

Yes the TV is PAL, but that wouldnt solve the colecovision that is ntsc

Would the ntsc colecovision work if I use an adapter to convert the stupid screw thing to the coax that pal uses?

How odd. Why would someone with a SCART capable TV mod the Sega Master System for an RCA cable, instead of RGB?
