    Default Famicom Disk System Help

I just picked up a Famicom Disk System and even though the seller said it works it doesn't. First it didn't work with the included ac adapter (have a feeling it is the wrong adapter). Then when I put batteries in it I heard the motor running but it never loaded the game. I am unsure if it is the disk or the system since I only have one disk. The screen said loading but never got any farther. I am guessing that it might be the belt but I am unsure about the difficulty in changing it. Any help is appreciated.

    Bingo.

Need a new belt. What happens is the disk card lever flipped to indicate a disk card is inserted, and the FDS begins to spin the pulley where the motor is. Without a belt, it will spin forever waiting for some kind of I/O feedback from the head. Unfortunately the firmware doesn't detect this scenario (by waiting X seconds then giving up with an error if no data is received from the head because it can't move -- would have been good if it was designed this way but it's not.) Any other problem either leads to a game loading or an ERR message, if there's a belt in place.

Remember to clean out the remnants of the old belt as much as you can before installing the new one.
