So, is anyone going to be getting this over the Retron 5? Also, what did you guys think about the system they released before this known as the Retro Duo? One thing I do like about this system is that the controller ports are on the front of the console and not scattered all around the sides and whatnot, I think it would be a bit easier and nicer not to loose the extra 2-3 inches of controller reach or having to turn your system sideways when playing NES or Genesis on the Retron 5 if you're in need of extra cable length.

What do you guys think of this?

Honestly, I most likely won't buy either. I'm part of the original hardware die hard crowd. However, these two I find pretty interesting. Perhaps one of them will change my mind about clones?

The 5 has me slightly interested just because of the whole HCMI thing. If that provides the sort of image that it should, then I'll grab one.

I have some interest in the Retron 5, because of the higher resolution and save state features. I'll wait and see what other people think of it first.

The Retron 5 has much more interest from me. A custom OS, numerous useful modern technologies like savestates and simulated scanlines, plus built-in GBA support.

After seeing what they revealed and the price I'd have to say not interested. Even if you end up buying the base unit along with the addon adapter for the system you're still one machine short (Famicom) of the Retron5, and as it's more game on a chip tech it won't play everything right or sound right either. I see it as a more expensive alternative with less to offer and more of the same flawed game on a chip tech versus the Retron5 which does more and has modern tech going with the HDMI, save states, audio and visual filters, and more and it costs less.

I'm interested in both because they represent opposite ends of the spectrum. RetroBit is sticking with reverse engineered hardware as a base for their clone, and Hyperkin is going with emulation. This is exactly the kind of comparison that catches my attention. I'll be buying both so I can preform detailed comparisons.

As much as I love to add weird clones to my collection, I can't see me dropping money on this. Ultimately it's getting to the point where stuff that I have is starting to get redundant.

If the Retron 5 turns out to be a winner that may be the last clone I get (or need to get) for a long while.
