    Default pong problems

I recently bought a pong console, the APF tv fun! And it worked great for like 10 minutes until the picture went away and smoke came out of the unit. Now when I turn it on it still works for about 5 seconds and the picture goes away again. What the heck happened?

Sounds like something popped inside. Were you using a power adapter not designed for the unit per chance?

It's possible. The one they sent with it is a 14v but it only takes 6c batteries. Wouldn't that make it 9v?

Yep, 6 C batteries supply 9V (generally a little bit more, at least when new). Feeding 14V into something designed for 9V would definitely not make it happy, even if it used a voltage regulator (unlikely with a pong console, AFAIK). The fact that it still works at all is probably a good sign, but I wouldn't use it with that power supply anymore. Open it up, and look for anything which looks like it burned up. The good thing about these pong consoles is that most of the parts are still available. Good luck!

I did peak inside right after the incident and it all looks fine I guess? nothing horrifying, but I will definitely not use that adapter again. I have another 9v adapter, but it doesn't seem to work for this. anybody know the ma required for this unit based on needing 6 c batteries? the back of the unit says to use "battery eliminator 715tv" but can't seem to find one.

What color was the smoke? If it was white, then your capacitors probably just vented electrolyte and need to be replaced.

I think it was dark maybe? smelled horrific, like burning hair or plastic

You might want to look harder for burnt components.

You might just wanna get some C batteries. Around here you can get packs of 2 for a buck so 3 bucks to get this thing going proper.
