Default American Video Entertainment NES Games

Has anybody had any issues with the unlicensed American Video Entertainments games for the NES? My toploader seems to want to have no business playing them. I've tried multiple titles, Krazy Creatures, Puzzle, just to name a few. My original NES seems to want to play them , I can see the game load but the system won't stay on, it keeps flashing. To clarify, both systems play games fine. Any ideas?

Some later NES systems can't play unlicensed games except for the Tengen ones, I've had a few like that. I've never heard of that before with Top Loaders though, they don't have lockout chips so it doesn't make sense to me.

My toploader plays the blackjack game without any problems.

Didn't some unlicensed games have a switch on them, to make them work on both older and newer systems (flip the switch based on system)? Though I'd imagine even those predated the top loader, so no surprise if they're blocked.

    That was for Codemasters/Camerica releases.

Yup, it was the Camerica games as mentioned. Only from what I've read is that the switch is to change between NTSC and PAL modes, like they only released one version of the cart worldwide. I can't be sure, I've never found any difference with the switch in either position.
