Default Good retro game youtube channel recommendations?

I enjoy watching some good retro videogame youtube videos such as: Mark from CGR(undertow sucks), Game Sack, and Retro Snow(he seems to have retired from making vids).

NOT the angry/pissed/irate lames who think they're funny. Nor vids with idiotic-sounding commentaries, playthroughs( I'll play through it myself), unboxings, or people showing you what they recently picked up(I could care less).

Good clean, informative, and professional videos that are entertaining to watch. Any other recommendations similar to the channels I mentioned would be much appreciated.

    Second that.

I tried so hard to hate the guy, as I am often prone to judging internet video books by their covers.

But he's got some great content.

Yup. Metal Jesus has some good stuff.

Happy Video Game Nerd: Far more than just a parody of the AVGN, Derek Alexander is an excellent reviewer.

I also like Pat the NES Punk a good bit. The interaction between him and R.O.B. is usually awesome. Avoid his Flea Market stuff and you'll be fine.

These Playvalue videos are a couple of years old now, but they're still a good watch for classic game history.

I would recommend you check PeteDorr and HappyConsoleGamer.

They are both really down to earth, knowledgeable person and the production value of their videos is great.

I just uploaded my first video. If you could check it out and let me know what you think that would be awesome. Also, check out the channels I'm subscribed to. I suggest checking all of them out.

Those are my favorite youtubers. It was kind of funny upon joining this forum to see Pete Dorr is a long time member. I tend to like Alpha Omega sin and how he gets in your face. He is the true angry video game nerd.

Chrontendo/Chronsega/Chronturbo and Generation-16 are good for information on game releases. 16-bit Gems is good too if you're looking for reviews.

I am totally in love with Happy Console Gamer. I've never seen anyone in their 30s with such excitement for video games reminiscent of childhood. It's so refreshing in a cesspool of angry reviewers and annoying LPers.

I been liking his newer stuff a lot. A lot of his old videos were pickups which get boring after awhile. The only youtuber I can stand to watch pickups videos is Pete Dorr. And even his pickup videos are having the same problem. That is what happens when you buy games just to own them.

He does news and reviews really well. like the last one I posted on here about Atlus going bankrupt.

Pickup videos or hauls is about the most annoying thing in the gaming community to me. It's like hey guys look at these cheap games I bought and most likely will never play. YAY! It's always some knucklehead with a stack of games throwing out cheesy one liners about them.

That is the problem I have with captian8bit. I love the guys editing skills but he is too focused on the monetary aspect of video games. I'm sick and tired of hearing about his Flintstones find for the last 2 years now.

Oh, God. Don't even get me started. I was once subbed to this guy named Pirate, who was a full blown level five hoarder/dumpster diver. It was scary, watching his pick up vids.

Also, recently stumbled across a channel that hosts a show called Video Game Theory -- the guy makes educated and well-researched guesses as to themes, story elements, and development in games. His video on Polybius kept me up at night. T_T

Thanks for all the great recommendations, I appreciate it.

I'm familiar with metal jesus, he does have some good vids and seems like a cool down-to-earth dude, despite his overthehill grunge rocker appearance. His console reviews are great but alot of his content lean towards "my recent pickups". He at least shows some game footage but seems to know nothing about the games. Still good stuff nonetheless, although his buddy "Idrinkbeeroncamtolookcool" should definitely get less camera time.

I assume lophatjello and ClanOfTheGrayWolf know each other somehow, or are both sponsored by the same website? I only watched a few of each of their videos but they both do quickies and have intros mentioning retrowaretv. lophatjello seems like a great reviewer and doesn't really need to be the silly counterpart to that other lame guy. He should just drop the schtick.

I can tell Happy Console Gamer is a super enthusiastic gamer, just by watching a couple of his vids. They are obviously unscripted but he knows his shit and doesn't come across as amateurish. He does talk really fast at times though, as if he's high on caffeine. Great stuff though. I have yet to check Pete Dorr or some of the others.

@Polygon- Do you have a link to your channel? Couldn't find it in your sig? Thanks again for all the recommends, great discussion to see what everyone else likes and hates!

I do like to watch pickup videos. Mainly to see what games other people are picking up. I like channels where they say a little about the game. If I've never heard of it I'll check it out and see if I might like it. However, I see why someone would get irritated at a lot of them. I don't understand picking up a game you know is shit just because it was $1. If it's shit, it's not worth it at any price IMO. I only pickup games I want to play.

Hey, this thread has been pretty helpful for me.

I have my own YouTube channel which I am obligated to plug:
Excuse the bits of Japanese in it. I seem to get a lot of hits from Japan, so I cater to them.

It's not the most organized or professionally done channel, but I like to keep it up for the contents available.

Currently most of what I record myself involve either Satellaview or Sega Pico ROMs and emulation, since both have been developing over the past few years. Since I have a major Satellaview research project, as well, a lot of content from said project ends up on there in a broader sense.

It also has re-uploads from NicoNicoDouga, mostly based on what looks like an interesting retro video game media piece. There's a lot of promo/tips n' tricks VHSes and whatnot that aren't going around on YouTube, as well as footage of Family Basic programs and whatnot.

Hopefully some of my videos there are worth your time.

I forgot to mention spida1a of turbo views.Sure he doesn't have the time to put out video's on a regular basis any more, but he's still the best turbografx 16 reviewer out there.
