This isn't exactly my top 25 as I've only made a top RPG list, however anything not RPG are what I'd consider some of the best games so everything would fit in a top games list. I did put a little thought into it, but not as much thought or detail as if I'd actually be ranking them since it'd consist me making a list of every game I've played and comparing each individual game whether it goes up on the list or below that title. Also alphabetized might make it a little easier to place in your master list.

    Arc the Lad 2
    Brigandine
    Castlevania
    Castlevania 3
    Super Castlevania 4
    Castlevania Lords of Shadow
    Devil May Cry 3
    Final Fantasy 6
    God Hand
    Grandia
    Mega Man 3
    Mega Man X
    Mega Man X4
Ninja Gaiden 2 The Dark Sword of Chaos
    Shadow of the Colossus
    Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne (SMT3)
    Super Mario Bros 3
    Tactics Ogre
    Twisted Metal (2012)
    Uncharted 2
    Wild ARMs
    Wild ARMs 3
    Wild Guns
    Xenogears
    Yakuza 4

My top 25 in alphabetical order:

    Alien vs. Predator (Jaguar)
    Asteroids (7800)
Baldur's Gate/Tales of the Sword Coast (PC)
Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn (PC)
    Centipede (7800)
    Dragon Warrior (NES)
    Dragon Warrior II (NES)
    Gears of War (360)
    Halo: Combat Evolved (XBOX)
    Maze Craze (2600)
    Pitfall! (2600)
    Pitfall II: Lost Caverns (5200)
    Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure (Jaguar)
    Phantasy Star (Master System)
    Rayman (Jaguar)
    Sonic the Hedgehog (Genesis)
    Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Genesis)
Sonic the Hedgehog CD (Sega CD)
    Street Fighter II (Arcade)
    Super Mario Bros. (NES)
    Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES)
    Super Mario World (SNES)
    Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Arcade)
    Video Olympics/Pong Sports (2600)
    Warlords (2600)

For the games that are on multiple platforms I chose the port I thought was the best.

What are you going to do for a game like Street Fighter II which I think has a pretty good chance of making the list? There are tons of ports plus tons of sequels and ports that are all different to a varying degree. Are you going to lump them all together or try to keep them seperate?

    firstly, thanks for your votes!

There will be editorial decisions made between our four hosts on a game by game basis. For games like Street Fighter II, I do not see a problem combining the various versions. But for Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow, some rabid pokemon fans voted for multiple versions of what is essentially the same game. But again, the four of us need to come to an agreement before any decisions are made.

I enjoyed the podcast, but I was a little disappointed by how much time was spent talking about the four 2600 games compared to some of the other games. I barely made it through the Final Fantasy 8 part. It went on and on and on. Your guest Becky said she really didn't like the game that much, but wouldn't stop talking about it. I shudder to think of the length of discussion for the other Final Fantasy games.

I will still check out the rest of the podcasts, I really did enjoy it. On a final note, during the Asteroids discussion it was said all ports are pretty much the same game, now I understand that thought process, but I must say the two player simultaneous play of the 7800 version puts it a notch above the rest for me.

    thanks!

The FF8 talk did go on a bit too long, but I am pretty happy with the mix of people we had on the show. Had we been a team of 7 RPG fanboys, the FF discussion would've gone on for over an hour. Having one serious RPG fangirl is a good addition to the show overall.

I would have loved to talk more about the 2600 games, but there was little back-and-forth. I was very happy for those games to be on the list (and there are more to come)

and you are right about asteroids... i just discovered the atari 8 bit version has a four-player mode. I have an Atari XEGS, but that only has 2 joystick ports. I am actually going to acquire an Atari 400 just to check out 4-player Asteroids.

I'm listening to the podcast right now, but looking at the games that didn't make the top 100 you listed and man. There are a lot of amazing games that didn't make the top 100. I know the top 100 is by users, but let's just hope that it's not either all new games or all games that people think deserve recognition just because they're originators of certain game styles. Haven't got to the list yet so I'll give my opinion sometime later. I don't think I'll have time to finish listening to the first party of thte list today.

    *edit*

Though the comment of being proud of the list and how it's better than anything IGN put out gives me hope.

So far they've listed Asteroids, Ninja Gaiden 1+2, Tomb Raider, and Mega Man 3 but I'll finish it later. So for four games it's already good, but at the same time, Tomb Raider is the kind of game I mentioned above that I think its in there only because it's the originator of its style. I'm leaving and will be back to finish listening to it later.

keep in mind that the titles in the upper slots only received 4 votes out of 83 total surveys collected, less than 5 percent of the participants voted for tomb raider. we were purposely vague on the criteria. people could vote for titles for whatever reason they wanted.

I finished listening to the first 25. While listening took some short notes to make comments about what was talked about.

What was mentioned above, the Final Fantasy 8 talk went on way too long and it's pretty clear that the one girl is a closet FF8 fan.

Arkham City came up and while I won't disagree with anyones votes, one thing is that everyone praises that game over the original. My opinion was Arkham City was a lot worse though and I want to express my opinion on it. On City, your grappling hook could be used on literally everything to pull yourself around and while it's more realistic that way, it really pushed you to do nothing but grapple around the city, grapple up parts in dungeons, etc, and there was very little platforming unlike in Arkham. On Arkham though, you weren't grappling constantly. When doing the stealth sections you couldn't grapple anywhere except to the gargoyles and most areas didn't have gargoyles, so you had to actually move around the room and take out enemies without being detected. Outside of the stealth sections there were very few parts you could grapple and the game was designed with platformer elements to it where you jump across here, shimmy around here, etc. Just gave a much better feel to the game.

Xenogears music came up and no one knew it .

During Marvel vs Capcom 2, it was said that it was "amazing until you got good at it." I didn't like MvC2, but I wanted to point out the quote because it's my opinion on Playstation All Stars. While this is off topic. I thought this game was good until you put more time into it and the more you get into the intermediate or pro levels of the game the worse it gets. I got good with over half the roster and it's ridiculous how broken the game is, especially after some nerfs.

But anyways. For the first 25 there were a lot of good games. Atleast 20 of them I'd consider good. I also liked the movie Tango and Cash which was brought up when Tango was mentioned, but the last 10-15 minutes of the movie sucked.

    *edit*

I think three games on my list made it to the top 25 that didn't make it, but I there were a lot of ties so I think it was the top 46. All those people who call themselves RPG fans and SMT Nocturne didn't make the top 100 should be ashamed of themselves. Play more RPGs. But so far three games I listed made it to the top 101 also.

    great post!

on our facebook page i am putting up two threads a day on each of the games on the list, so feel free to post there as well

    https://www.facebook.com/pages/Now-Y...24323690931034

you'll notice my absence from the conversation during most of the modern games, i have only watched Batman: AC so i will take your word on your points.

The Xenogears song apparently was not used in the game, but it still appeared on the soundtrack. Pinball Chris and Cory were both Xenogears fans but did not recognize the song. (i got this info from wikipedia, i have not played it myself)

Games 87-114 each had 4 votes, but games 87-101 had at least one tiebreaking former guest and/or host vote to be included in the final list, while 102-114 did not. Games 115-146 (including SMT: Nocture) had three votes + a tie breaking vote. Further down games 147-170 had three votes without a tiebreaker. Keep in mind 770 individual games received votes, so any title that received 3 or more votes is certainly in the above average category.
