Default Can you kill a 2600 by plugging it in with the power on?

Ok, so the reason I ask is because I think this is the second time this has happened to me. I plugged in the jack into the back of the system, it sparked as usual, and I realized the power switch was on the "On" position. The system does not work now. It was working the day before. When I turn on the power it doesn't make the TV flicker or anything.

I checked my AC adapter and its good. I read some stuff online and it looks like my 7805 regulator is imputing 10v and outputting 5v and my power switch is reading 10v at all the posts. So that's about it and where my knowledge ends. But it seems like this has happened to me twice but who knows could be coincidence.

The fact that it sparks ("as usual") when you plug it in sounds like the problem to me, not plugging it in with the power switch on.
