Default Curbside find >>> RGB guys need some advice !!

I found this in my apartment lobby where people leave junk and old stuff. It's a Sony PVM-1353MD. I have no experience with RGB monitors so wondering if it would be possible to hook up my SNES if I get the right cables and/or adapter. Basically, is this thing worth keeping??

    Yep. Get one of these:

    http://www.retrogamingcables.com/son...erter-bnc.html

And then the appropriate RGB SCART cable for your console of choice. I can't find a SNES one for sale right now unfortunately (I need one myself...).

I live in the U.S. That cable states:

"This adapter allows the connection of games consoles and micro computers which use European RGB Scart cables"

"Sony PVM BNC RGB with Sync to female European Scart"

Is that what I need? European Scart?

You're extremely fortunate to find one of these just sitting by the curb.

Even if you don't go the RGB route this is a fantastic monitor.

And if you ever decide to get rid of it, post it up on the BST section here. It'll go quick.

Except for those pesky shipping costs.

YES you want European SCART, and YES you want that exact SNES cable you found on eBay (which I am ordering right the heck now before they disappear again, thanks!). This is assuming you have a model 1 SNES which, sadly, doesn't have as good an output as the mini (though the mini requires a mod).

They aren't really that much. Especially for a 13" monitor.

ha ha, glad I could help.

Cool, I'll grab one myself and yes I have a model 1. What is another good system that can do RGB without mods?

Genesis and SMS just require a cable. PC Engine requires a mod but it's SO worth it, that's the system I use to show mine off.

Any recommendations on who can do the PC Engine or TG16 mod?

    PS1
    PS2
    PS3
    Saturn
    Dreamcast
    Jaguar
    Xbox
    Xbox 360
    Neo Geo

Though PS2 and PS3 infamously play movies with a green tint over RGB.

Ask around pcenginefx.com for PCE/TG16 modding. As for that SCART to BNC cable, didn't know a website was selling those, although I had someone make me one for half that price.

    Great monitor, lucky find!

Keep in mind that many of the classic systems - many, if not most, SNES systems, and the same for PC-Engine units, will show a particular pattern when hooked up with RGB called jailbars by many. The sharpness throughout the rest of the picture usually makes up for it, but it is something to be aware of.

Ideally the RGB mode is the best connection. As an interim you can get a simple composite to BNC adapter, plug in the upper left input just to see how the video looks. There is even a SVideo connection for a quick connection of the SNES while you are searching for the SCART/RGB cables.

Before investing into scart cables and bnc to scart cables, you should buy a cheap phono to bnc adapter to plug regular cable and test your console with a regular yellow cable to see if the picture is fine and the monitor as no burn in and sharp colors. those bnc phono adapters are less than a dollar at electronic specialty stores.

A quick Google search shows a weight of about 40lbs for this model. With the proper packaging and optimally double-boxed for shipping, it won't be cheap.
