    Default TG16 AV cable

anyone make or sell AV cables you can just plug into the pins on the back of the TG16?

I was hoping to fine one with female ends so I just mod the back cover. Turbo boosters are expensive.

I don't think it's often done. The simplest design takes a gentle user, force may bend pins.

Only luxury unmodded option is RGB with an amp in the cable. There's no s-video line.

The only thing I've seen that plugs in the back was this:

Personally for mine I soldered in a 3.5mm jack to use an audio/video component cable.

I would not use that, the audio pins connect directly to the Hu6280, there is no protection to the IC.

The video is not connected directly to an IC, but in a Turbo booster it goes through an amp, without it the picture looks off.

Lucky for me my TG16 came with the Turbo Booster Plus but if I was you I'd send it here to have the modification(s) done. - http://www.game-tech.us/pmwiki/pmwik...6/TurboGrafx16

He added composite output to my NES Top Loader and it looks and works just like it came from the factory with them installed. He is also very fast with his turnaround times.

I have made them in the past for people who don't want to mod their systems. I generally use old cables that for whatever reason, won't work. I just cut off the bad ends and replace them with connectors that fit on the pins. There are definitely better options, but I hate throwing stuff away that can be repurposed. I think I actually have one around here somewhere if you want it.

I've been wanting one for forever, but they are really expensive. I would like to get my hands on one as well at a reasonable price.

I made one of these, but I did really horribly at it but it did work. it uses connectors that go over the pin and wire, you don't have to solder anything to the system itself. I accidentally bent the pins in my Turbografx using it too but the system still works.

If this produces good sound and picture, then I will do this.

Also wouldnt it be easier to get an old pin connector with the same amount of pin holes and attatch it that way? I can put cords in a connector end, i just dont know how hard it would be to find a compatible one.

The pin connector is proprietary. As far as I know, NEC is the only company that uses it. That would make it much easier though.

I got a Turbo Booster a couple years ago, but it cost me probably 70-80 dollars. For that money, in hindsight I should have just gotten the system modded for RGB out, using a MegaDrive II output and SCART cable.

honestly, I'd pay 70-80 dollars if you could find a working one for that price.

Hopefully someday a huge parts bin will be discovered.

Or a container of turbo booster plus sets gets found.

I think it's not much more $$$ to just get a PC Engine, which has AV out standard.

Uh, a straight up PC Engine uses RF same as a stock TG-16. In both cases I simply installed AV jacks -

Does anyone know if there's any cosmetic difference between the North American TurboBooster and TurboBooster Plus versions? I bought my TurboBooster some 7 or 8 years ago for $35 (a steal, obviously), but I don't have any games that use the memory feature like Neutopia, so I'm not sure if there's any way to tell which version I have.
