Default Need Advice on fixing Ps2.

I've been trying to fix my Ps2 for a little while now and I've hit a snag. I replaced the laser unit and Ribbon cable attached to it. But now it has a weird Spinning behavior that you can view here.

Basically the laser appears to be trying to read the ps2 games but then it stops and starts again. Also there's a strange clicking noise that I believe is the Laser hitting the disc when trying to read it.

Any advice or help will be greatly appreciated.

The laser is failing to obtain focus lock, that can be caused by dust in the laser or a failing red (DVD) laser diode. If the unit has been messed with the laser power may be too high or low.

Default Any way to test it?

I'll grab some rubbing alcohol tomorrow to clean the lens , but just in case that doesn't help is there any way to test if I need to raise or lower the power on the laser?

i've never seen a PS2 start spinning like that, almost like its having a hard time overcoming the intertia to get it going and eventually does.

but yea i dont think alcohol is going to fix it. you'll probably want to adjust the pots on the laser and bring alot of patience.

i spent about 4 hours adjusting a laser in an audiophile PSX but its working now. I had to replace it and it and scph 1001's dont have some features the other models did when it came to the laser assemblies

I've seen similar but hell if I know what the problem is. I've always suspected a problem with the mechacon but you'd want to ask l_oliveira as he knows far more than a non-Sony employee really should know.
I fix things. You name it, I'll work on it. Want something modded? Recapped?
