    Default Good deal?

Just bought a Sega Saturn with all the cords, 2 controllers, a steering wheel and 8 games for $110. I didn't need to pay for shipping because it's actually like 2 towns over. Good deal?

    Games

    Virtua Fighter Remix
    Daytona USA
    Blazing Dragons
    Robotica
    Virtua Racing
    NHL All Star-Hockey
    Crime Wave
    Galatic Attack

What model is it? If its the initial release with the awful controllers, meh, but if you got the round button second revision with the Japanese style controllers, that's great. Get the modchip from racketboy and run burned CD-R games to try them out and see if they are good enough for you to buy. Also pick up a 4MB expansion cart + Action Replay for region free Saturn gaming.

110$ is kinda alot I would think. If the controllers are the system are not model 2 you paid too much.

I would avoid the action replay and instead burn copies of the JP games you want using the simple patch program that's out there. No need to wear out the delicate cart port.

Wear out? Can you explain what you mean? Once you have the 4M+Action Replay, why would you ever even remove it from the cart port? Mine has sat in my Saturn since I bought it several years ago.

Ditto. No reason to take the cart out. Besides, what else is the cart slot used for?

Only King of Fighters 95 and Ultraman use rom carts.

Worst is Action Replay may not save or load in-game. Games that require backup ram are crippled.

Ive never had problems saving to a pro-action replay. Vampire Savior, Marvel vs StreetFighter and X-Men vs Street fighter play perfectly with a pro-action replay plus.

If all the games are complete in their original longboxes without any crack then I would say it is a good start if you want to get into the system. If you were buying to resell you may have a hard time making anything.

There are plenty of solid games in that lot, I'd say the two standouts being Blazing Dragons and Galactic Attack. Personally the difference in the systems isn't that big if you're going to play legit games, you can always buy an extra controller if you need. Also, if you want a modchip I just saw a thread in the FS area yesterday that APE is selling NOS ones at a nice price.

Just google it. It's been covered a hundred times before.

In addition to the cart port wear issue, the PAR is quite good at corrupting save files, and the Saturn's internal memory is puny. So using real Sega memory cart is something that I like having the ability to do, especially when you consider that you cannot use the PAR memory in-game. You have to play the old save file switch-a-roo in order to utilize its memory.

It's also a cheap product. High failure rate (the fact that yours still works isn't indicative of the quality of the product in general), often corrupts save files, and I've seen one start to smolder after a particularly long run playing X-Men vs SF.

In all the years I've owned it, I've never had any problems whatsoever with mine.

Same here, Ive used the same one for at least 8 years now. Maybe a few poorly constructed batches were produced?

I knew you would say that, hence why I called it out before you could even do so. Again, one person's experience with it isn't indicative of the quality of this product. I worked in new and used game retail for nearly a decade and saw my fair share of Saturn PAR units crap out or be shit right out of the box.

I have one that still works too. Big deal. I'm not saying that they all don't work or will fail prematurely, but rather that it's proven to be (on average) a poor quality product based on my experience with it.

Yeah I bought the system to get into it not to re sell anything. Also I asked this question compared to the ebay prices. I know people tend to get things cheaper offline and through other sites but on ebay things are expensive. The buttons aren't the round ones and I'm looking to buy some cheap Saturn games like Nights or Sega Rally if anyone has those for sale

How about an official Sega memory card? Internal memory isn't enough to house a lot of games and the Action Replay can't doesn't allow save creation/direct initial saving and is known to corrupt save data more frequently than an official cartridge (which is to say it corrupts data period whereas I've never had an official do so). I also kept an ARP4-1+ inserted in a system long term and it still wore out the slot. Not only but the cartridge itself can completely fail and require a flash of the firmware to restore functionality.

$110 for everything is alright with said software included, as mentioned it's a good start but not a complete steal. Having a steering wheel locally without shipping is nice. If you're concerned about imports and are wary of the Action Replay you can have a region-free modification installed.
    Whaddya mean invalid parameters?!

9,000 gigs of ram and it still can't answer a simple question!

Of course, they aren't saving to the cartridge. action replay can only access its memory from its menu after rebooting the whole console.
